Most likely from inside the trunk, remove the cover to expose the light sockets they should twist one way then pull out then replace the bulb by pushing in a little and twisting (1156's and 1157's)

SOURCE: tail light removal 2006 Montego

The liner is much more durable that it appears. You should be able to fold the liner back enough to unscrew the three bolts holding the tail light unit.

SOURCE: Change the oil on a 2005 Mercury Montego

Go to a automotive store and tell them you have a 2005 Mercury Montego and what engine it has if there is more then one model and get an oil filter and the oil. Put the car up on ramps and secure it making sure it won't roll back or fall while you are under it. get under the engine and look for the oil pan which should have a bolt in the bottom of it where you can drain the oil. Drain the oil in a proper container and then put the drain plug back in the pan. Then find the oil filter and unscrew it and remove it.. It could be full of oil so watch out and make sure the pan is underneath the filter. Wipe the base where the oil filter screws on and make sure the gasket from the old filter is not still on the engine. Get your new filter and take your finger and put it in one of your new containers of new oil and spread that on the gasket of the new filter. Screw on the filter until the gasket touches the base and then turn only a little more then a 1/4 to 1/2 turn tops. Do not over tighten the filter. Find out what oil the vehicle needs (probably 5-30) and look for the oil cap on a valve cover under the hood. It probably takes 5 quarts but check for sure in your manual or ask when you are at the automotive store. Put the oil in and put the filler cap back on. Now go start the vehicle and make sure you have oil pressure by either the oil pressure guage showing pressure or the oil pressure idiot light goes off and while running check under the car for any signs of leaks. If no leaks then back the car off the ramps and shut the car off on a level surface. Let it sit 10 minutes and check for leaks underneath the car and check the oil dipstick to make sure the proper level of oil is in the engine. Then you are set.

Always check your air filter when changing oil to make sure it is clean as that helps your engine run better and you save gas in the process. Good luck

It is also best to change oil when your engine is warmed up as well.

SOURCE: Mercury Montego won't start. Started 10 minutes

You could check the Inertia switch and see if the fuel pump is cut off.
If that is Okay I would disconnect the battery and see if the system reboots.
If it starts after that, go to Autozone or Oreillys for a free scan.
If it does not start, then try putting in the security code if you have a keypad. If no keypad, then try your other carkey, your ID chip may have died.

SOURCE: I can't seem to compress the rear brake calipers

With a pair of needle nose pliers turn the pistons clockwise to set them back to base position. The V shape groves are not too deep on the pistons, so make sure you have gloves on, in case of the pliers slip out while turning it.

My passenger tail light went out on my 2005 mercury Montego, instead of replacing the expensive led assembly, is there any other cars with "same" assembly without the expensive led's? Marquis/crwnvic?

Hello P Schaub,

Looking at the options available to you for parts...
Published by ROCKAUTO...
- it does indeed seem to be YOUR CHOICE...

Either TYPE of BULB seems to fit your vehicle .

Still LOOKING but I see no RESTRICTIONS.

But will the whole tail light assembly from mercury grand marquis fit directly in my 2005 mercury Montego? Would much rather order 2 new marquis tail lights then the 1 Montego tail light since price difference is better.

Sorry.. I miss-understood.

I thought you were trying to save (avoid)the $20 of the LED over The old style... .You are seriously wanting to use Crown Victoria "housings"...?

If I am understanding ... you want to reconfigure your back-up lights & everything?

Sorry I got in the way of this question. I would NOT recommend downgrading to incandescent...
but your are talking custom wiring as well.

I would not recommend either. The dealer cost for each Crown Victoria is over $100 each... and you HAVE NOT EVEN started with the CUSTOM WORK NEEDED for our reverse (back-up) lights.

I absolutely believe the trunk lid is different as well...

If you want a sheet metal guy to tell you the
fenders are the same... The best recommendation would be to RE-POST your question. I'll steer clear. Sorry I miss-understood your objective.

My apologies!

I would suggest your repost.

2006 mercury montego. DTC codes: 2104, 2121, 2126, 2131. Throws a check eng light then the wrench light. Car runs but loses acceleration. ETB and APP sensor changed. No change.

These codes relate to an electronic throttle body fault. Normally its from dirt, hardening oil deposits jamming the throttle body movement. Try cleaning the throttle body first before going down the replacement route. Hope this helps....

How to change the amber side marker light bulb

This is not a solution, other than "Take it to the shop", but for our 2006 Montego, the shop is saying they have to take the bumper off to get at the marker light. I don't think that's a great design idea.

Replace headlights bulbs

Lift hood, disconnect connector going to back of light fixture. There is a clip holding the connector onto the light that will have to be lifted while pulling connector off. There will be a retaining ring around were you pulled the connector turn it counter clockwise. This is what holds the builb into place. Pull bulb from fixture. Install in reverse, be careful not to touch the glass part of the new bulb with your fingers. This will shorten the life of the bulb. Good luck....
