Question about 2000 Hyundai Accent

How do I change the power steering belt on a 2001 Hyundai Accent? The pulley that holds both the power steering belt and the alternator belt does not seem to allow enough room for the P/S belt to come off. Do I have to remove the alternator to make this replacement?

Normally there will be a hole to insert an Allan key or drill bit to hold the tensioner so look for that first

2003 hyundai accent producing loud squeaks only at start up especially in the cold

I had a bad power steering belt on a 2001, same issue. The problem is that the after market belts don't have enough thickness and the right taper to get sufficient grip on the pulley, so the new belt squeals more! I had to get a Hyundal belt which works well.

Will a alternator from a 1999 accent fit a 2002 accent

Yes, it will. Here is a picture of the alternator that fits from 1999 to 2002: As long as the connections and mounts are the same, it should work. If the pulley is different, you can swap your pulley. Make sure the belt lines up with the other pulleys.

My 2001 Hyundai Accent is dripping fuel from the fuel line.An oil change shop wouldn't change my oil on account of the increased risk of danger. The power steering pump has also been squeaky, loud and the...

Take the car to another mechanic. The steering is likely going stiff because the belt is loose, that's why it's squeaking and slipping on the power steering pump pulley. The mechanic should have checked and tightened the belt. The pumps rarely fail. If you have a gas leak, it must be repaired immediately and it depends what is wrong that will determine cost. Go to a smaller shop that has been around along time or get a referral from friends that have had good luck with a shop that does repairs, not just oil changes.

Looking for an overview of changing power steering belt

Remove the 14mm bolt securing the alternator tensioner to the alternator. Then take the tensioner off and use a prybar to slide the alternator back enough to take off the belt. Then loosen the 14mm p/s tensioer bolt. slide the pump back and change the belt.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Good luck.

Power steering noise

The belt is almost assuredly to tight and needs to be loosened just a hair. It is hard sometimes to get the tension just right. Try looseneing it a bit and hopefully that will help. I have had the same problem in the past.
