99 cougar won't start

Slight clicking noise when starting (not like battery dead clicking). Lights full power. Did this 3 months ago and started fine in 3 hours. Suspsecting something with the factory alarm system or a ''chip''.

From inside car the slight click sounds under dash.

With hood open can hear slight click but unable to determine exact location.

Normally can set alarm off by opening trunk with doors locked but now alarm not going off when doing this.

The engine does not crank at all or attempt to crank.

Get a breaker bar on the motor and see if you can turn it over by hand.. if not, your engine is seized, if it does turn over, its probably the alarm.

I am having this problem right now! Same year! The lights and all turn on. When I turn the key, the starter solenoid energizes, as I hear the "click". The battery shows 12.5 volts, and it won't crank off of a jump.

The car started fine 2 days ago before I removed the alternator (battery not charging, new battery, also "new" alternator) for testing. Once it tested good, I was told to try a new battery cable to the alternator. I removed the old, which had a junction block about half way down the cable, and installed the new, which does not. Now I can't get the car to crank, or even try to crank - just clicks. Any help would be appreciated, because the car is not mine and I want to blow it up.

Is the clicking sound from under the dash or under the hood? Does the engine crank over?

A lot more info is needed to narrow down the cause.

Your suspicion about the alarm system is probably right. Without a factory wiring diagram to see what is involved in the alarm system, It will be hard to point to a fix. Can you disable the system manually? Are all the door and other area sensors working properly (try opening and closing all doors, the hood and trunk? Are there any indicators on the dash showing the condition of the alarm system?

Have you considered the fact the engine might be seized?

My mitsubishi galant suddenly won't start

1. Check n clean battery cables with a battery brush. Look at both ends, if able.
2. Check battery acid level. Add if needed, get a jump.
3. All OK? Then get a battery load-test done free at a parts store.

18 degrees in September? Isn't that Celsius?

Some power but won't start without jumping

the battery is bad. the plates are warped or sulfated.
our shop see that all the time.just change the battery and make sure the terminals are clean and tight and the starter connection is good.

1999 mercury cougar wont start

clicking usually sounds like a starter sometiimes when they start going bad it gets stuck that's why u only hear clicking, try tapping it with a steel bar or something it worked for me wen my car was doing that, and what u mentioned about the battery it might be that is not holding charge even if u try jump starting it

Cutlass supreme wont start

It could possibly be the starter, but before you get that far make sure the Battery cables are connected very tight. If loose the car won't start or do anything. Also make sure the battery cable is grounded.

Look at the fuel filter. May also be a bad fuel pump.

OR
several CAR products had a torque converter lock up problem. It would shift in and out at a certain speed. Sometimes changing the transmission fluid will fix it.

OR
it could bealternator problem
It's the same as on any other car. If it's starting to go, you may notice a drop in RPMs below normal, when slowing. When you go to start it, it may not want to at first and may seem like the battery is going dead. Lastly, at night, when you turn your headlights on, if anything dims greatly, or lights lightly pulsate, these are all signs. The best thing to do is to take it up to an Autozone or something like that and get a battery and alternator test.
