1985 toyota camry unplug mass air flow sensor engine will start plug back in engine dies

There is a switch in the airflow meter that keeps the fuel pump relay closed as long as there is airflow. With the meter unplugged, the pump should not run except when the key is turned to start. It would seem to me that you have a wiring issue. Try jumping the fuel pump relay so the pump runs whenever the key is on. (Remove the relay and jump the pump wire to the accessory wire--see top left diagram.) This defeats the safety feature but will keep the pump running.

(ie. the theft control

Could be fuel pump. If you noticed that it was taking a long time for the engine to start before this problem occurred. If you do not hear the pump when you turn the key, then get a pressure gauge hooked up to the fuel line and check the pressure. Fuel pump is in the tank it will take you a few hours to replace.

IT WON'T TURN ON EXCEPTTED WITH STARTTING FLUED? i need a diagram of the fuel pump!

GM fuel pumps are really easy to diagnose.

Back at the fuel tank you will see a harness that goes to the fuel pump. There will be two grey wires, one black, and one purple wire. The larger grey wire is the power supply to the fuel pump. There should be power on it for 3-5 seconds when the key is turned to the run position and anytime the engine is cranking over.

If there is power there and you have no fuel pressure than the pump is bad. Take a rubber mallet and hit the center of the fuel tank while somebody cranks the engine over. If the pump starts to run you just confirmed that it is bad. Hitting the tank is not a repair. Usually it tells us that the brushes are bad or the commutator is worn out in the pump. Hitting the tank will jar the pump just enough to getting it working in most causes.

If you have no power to the pump let me know and I'll get you some more info on what to check. It is rare to have other issues.

1995 plymouth voyager engine wont turn over...replaced fuel filter..cranked for 30 sec...removed fuel filter and no gas getting to fuel filter...can it possibly be anything else except fuel pump??

Put the line back together and give the fuel tank a light whack with your hand or a rubber mallat while trying to start it.if the fuel pump is dead, the vibration may start your fuel pump working.good way to verify

Fuel filter location

most of the fuel filters on any newer GM vehicles are an in tank filter bolted directly to the pump and pump house except for the pickups and the vans to a curtain year they have two one in the tank and one inline filter under the drivers door along the frame rail.
