I don't know exactly where your starter is located but I can help you figure it out. If you go to this website you will see a picture of what it is you are looking for: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/catalog/parts/partsShelf.jsp?categoryDisplayName=External+Engine&fromType=parts&fromString=search&parentId=cat30063&currentPage=1&filterByKeyWord=starter&isSearchByPartNumber=false&navValue=15300045&categoryNValue=15399999&fromWhere=&itemId=prod61198&displayName=Starter&searchText=starter Now that you know what you are looking for, you need to follow the positive (should be red) wire from your battery and it will lead in the direction of the engine block. At the end of that wire you will find your starter. Hope this helps. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

How to diagnois problem with no scanner

Eliminate the battery as the issue first up.
Check if you can jump start the car from another vehicle with its engine running or at least have the starter motor kick over the engine. If it starts then you know your battery is the issue. Having lights does not mean the battery has enough cold cranking amps to turn over the starter motor.

2. If the starter cranks the engine over as normal with a jump start from another car but your engine does not start you have also eliminated the starter motor as the issue.

3. If it does not start and the starter motor will not crank the engine over either when you jump start from another vehicle, then there may well be a problem with the starter solenoid, the starter motor itself or with the wiring to the starter solenoid or to the starter motor. No power getting to the starter motor solenoid or to the starter motor and obviously the starter motor will not turn over.

4. So I need not write much more here, there is a very good guide to solving starting issues here which I suggest you might like to read.

There is an ignition/starter switch on the left side of the steering column that activates the starter solenoid.

The acr would not start. Battery works. I banged

If you banged on the starter motor and it started then you have a stickie bendix drive and solinoid sticking
But if you have to also jump start it as well then do this.....When it wont start before doing anything else turn on the lights and hit the starter and if the lights go dim or go out the battery is no good or you have a short in the eletc ...so take battery lead off for 2 days and if starts you have a SHORTin the eletrics
