Question about 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix
At first the check engine light seemed to come on right after i got gas so I didn't worry about it but it has continued to come on. My cousin has a reader (i believe it is the actron). When he attached it to my car it came back with "P0171 System Too Lean" and "P0507 Idle Control System RPM High". I dont really know anything about cars but I like to be prepared when I go to the mechanic so they dont try to get over on me. Can anyone give me information on what these codes mean and what is needed to get fixed...if its that simple. Appreciate any help you can be
One very likely possibility is a vacuum leak. This creates the lean fuel code. In response to lean fuel the pcm (computer) increases fuel delivery thus creating the high rpm code. First check engine over for vacuum leak especially rubber and hard plastic vacuum tubing that could have broken or developed a hole. High heat areas, such as on top of intake, are especially susceptible.
