Check fluid level add if needed with proper factory rated tranny fluid, if this does not work it could be multiple sensors not working properly or tranny needs replacement.

1995 Nissan pickup with automatic transmission, when I start it it makes a loud gear rubbing noise coming from the flywheel area. Any ideas? Had the starter checked it's still good.

when you had the starter out, did you inspect the flywheel itself? the starter can be engaging but the flywheel can have some wear so that a grinding noise will be heard

Either transmission oil pump is on its way out or reverse circuit is clogged , reverse shift solenoid is defective TCM may be defective , transmission range sensor begining to fail or manual shift valve and pressure regulator are defective.

Suggest taking the vehicle to a transmission repair shop they will diagnosis it and repair it.

No reverse engages but has no torque. drive 1, 2 are good

The reverse in your transmission is most likely burnt out . Check your transmisison fluid by pulling out the dipstick (closets to the firewall), if the fluid is not red (but back or dark color) and smiells burnt that is the indication of burnt transmission.

Nissan sentra 1999, car starting but gear are not working so not moving fwd or rev.

This sounds like a transmission problem. I am haveing a simular problem. Shifts to drive, but is slow to catch and if you apply gas before engage it lurches forward. I am having the transmission replaced with a used one with less miles.

Whining noise when engaging 1st or reverse.

i had a nissan pickup that would whine in all gears except 4th...it started out with 1st then reverse then went to the rest...solution was new transmission...or rebuild cause the syncronizers or the gears them selves are being chewed up...the new transmission was cheaper then a rebuild. or take it to somewhere that will do free diag on the transmission.

MY 1997 NISSAN XE 2.4 LITER, 4 CYLINDER, 5-SPEED STANDARD 2WD TRUCK WILL NOT GO IN REVERSE WITH VEHICLE BEING STILL WITHOUT KNOCKING IT IN GREAR WITH YOUR FIST BUT IT WILL GO IN GEAR IF YOU ARE COASTING...

With the vehicle sitting still, ease the clutch out just a little bit while trying to engage reverse. If it pops in, even with a little grinding, it seems the bearings on the counter shaft may be a little stiff. Have you checked the level of the gear lube in the transmission?
