Question about 1999 Cadillac Catera
3 wires to the switch. One is hot (+) from headlight switch on the dash, this one should be light blue. The two that come out (it's all in one 3 prong plug) are tan and light green. Tan goes out to the low beams, light green to the high beams.

The dimmer switch operates an actuator that pushes on a rod and then that rod goes down the steering column and pushes on the actual dimmer switch which is near the bottom of the steering column, u will need to remove the trim under the steering column and then the must remove the 2 nuts that hold the column to the bottom of dash, carefully lay the column on the seat and then u will have access to the dimmer switch, actuate the switch and see if the rod moves, if it doesn't then u must replace the dimmer switch rod actuator plastic piece at the top of the column, if it does move up and down either the dimmer switch has come loose or the dimmer switch is defective.

Easiest way. Go to any auto store, Pep Boys etc, locate the book for the year of your car and write down the wire diagram.

The GM scissors tops from 1971-1976 are the most difficult top to replace/repair. My 42 years of experience with tops recommends that you use a pro and one who has done several of these cars.
