Tricky and risky ,and if garage is not to far away, use the parking brake and brake pedal at low speeds to stop. Taking out of gear at stops at a light or crossing/stop sign. Otherwise, cap and plug the main line at rear axle brake tee spliter from front.

Not sure but in a pinch follow the brake lines up from the wheel cylinders. There may be a manifold between the wheel cylinders and the master cylinder.

Highly possible brake booster has,failed. You can pinch off the vacuum line and press on the brakes if idle does not change ,replace booster,if idle still changes take to a mechanic. Do not attempt to drive it with line pinched

Possible that you may have a pinch in the line somewhere, or possibly a leak. i definitely wouldn't drive it until this is resolved. I would follow the line the best you can and look for any signs of damage. Also being that old it may be possible that the valve is not functioning properly and will need to be replaced.

I have a brake line leaking from the back but I need to pinch it off so I can drive it to the garage for repairs , what line do I pinch off from the master cylinder so I just have front brakes.

I have a busted rear brake line on my 97 Malibu(V6). Stranded outside city limits. In order to ger into town I need to disconnect rear line at the master cyclinder. Is it the front line for the front...

Disconnecting the line won't stop the fluid from leaking out. Your best bet would be to use a pair of Vise-Grips and pinch the line off where it is broken. You'll probably have to pinch it a couple of times to get it to stop leaking or only seep a little and make sur the pliers are as tight as you can get them usung the square flat part of the jaws to cover the line. Hope this helps.

Sure. The leak in the back won't empy the front brakes, so you should be able to get home.
Don't forget the emergency brake if you need it.
Don't try to plug the leak. You would only make repairs more expensive.
You will need to replace wheel cylinder ($20), and shoes ($20) and labor ($50).

Insturctions for replacing rear struts

raise rear of vechicle then support by jack stands.let rear suspension hang to take pressure off strut coil springs.remove rear package tray trim panel. remove rear wheel.remove brake load sensor .remove brake hose.remove stabilizer bar bracket and link.remove tension strut .remove spindle pinch bolt and strut assembly.if the strut coil spring broke you wont need a coil springcompressor.BESURE INSTALL NEW MOUNTING BOLTS AND PINCH BOLT.install the strut assembly.use a new pinch bolt .torque it to 50-67 ft lbs.torque the 3 upper mounting nuts to 19-25 ft lbs. tension strut torque nut to 35-46 ft lbs. stabilizer bar link torque to 60- 81 inch pounds.stabilizer bar bracket torque to 25-33 ft lbs.NOW INSTALL .brake hose / brake load sensor/ rear wheel /rear package tray trim panel.

In a pinch, I agree, use a compression fitting. But that is even harder than doing it the right way. After cutting the line, you have to have it perfectly round. By working with the already rusty metal, you are now fatiguing the metal. Then add on the compression, and added weight, and you get yourself a weak point.

The easiest way is to by the right length line or lines (It is far better to have more than less), the couplers (if needed), and any special adapters you may need (ie 3/16 standard flare to 1/4 bubble flare.) Take with you the ends and a section of line. The line is not that expensive ($7 for the longest.)

Start running the line, one section at a time, making sure to keep the ends on the end. When you need to make a bend, DO NOT make a tight bend that crimps the line. Discard the line if this happens. If you have a tool, use it. Other wise use you hand to make, gentle bends. Connect one end and connect the couplers, if used. When you get to the other side, wind the excess around a spiral. Secure with wire or existing retainers.

This is way safer than a compression fitting, and not all that hard. Remember to bleed the brakes

Brake line hose has hole in it

The only real solution to your problem is to replace the damaged line, bleed the brakes, and check for leaks after you are done. The line should go up to the frame, and go into a small metal bracket that is welded to the frame. The hose is usually held in place by a small metal clip, and a steel brake line will thread into the end of the hose assy. where it terminates in the frame mounted brakcet.
