Sounds like a misfire. first check it intake hose from the air filter box to the throttle body. check it for cracks. remove it if you have to. air entering the intake behind the MAF sensor causes improper air/fuel mixture which could cause your misfire.

if all is well it could be in need of a tune up plugs/wires (don't use aftermarket wires get mazda ones) coils could also be weak.
start from plugs to wires to coils, after checking the intake hose.

If your Mazda Tribute's engine has a rumbling noise when you start it, this is most likely from the drive belt. You will need to replace it.

take it to an accredited professional service center and have the codes read
indicates a fuel pressure/injector problem
good mechanics do not say that they do not know the problem but do the scan of the fault codes and then quote on repairs

My 2000 model mazda protege makes a clunk when making sharp turns, accelerating or shifting from 1st to 2nd gear?

Sounds like a bad cv joint. Easy way to check is to raise the front of the vehicle so both front tires are off the ground. Use jack stands under the vehicle and block the rear tires. Start the engine and put the tranny in drive. Let the front wheels rotate while the engine is idling and turn the steering wheel slowly in both directions. Listen for the clunking noise. You may have to speed the engine up a little to make it work.

remove the thermostat and place in a pan of water a boil and wait to see if the thermostat opens , as for the noise , get the thermostat sorted out and see if still makes the noise , could just have been caused by the overheating, one thing at a time so you know what the problem is

I think you have run the oil down low or have had a blockage in the oil gallery to the crankshaft.Resulting in the bottom end bearings wearing out.Drain the oil and check for metal particals.good luck!!
