I would check the battery and alternator first. But if it starts every time it's probably something else. Measure the voltage across the battery with the car running, should be 14 volts, if not, the alternator is not charging the battery and needs replaced.
If that's not the issue, it could be as simple as replacing a dirty air filter or fuel filter.
Drive it to autozone or O reilly. they will check it for you for free.

1977 dodge cruise control fuse

Hello Jill Walker,

I am a keeper & lover of old cars... so I has no idea it was nearly impossible to find fuse data on something as new as a '77 Dodge.

I did go looking... (for FREE sites)... Sorry
(very good reasonably priced books below).

Before you get too deep into fuse hunts I will tell you MY EXPERIENCE has been the most common failure of CRUISE CONTROLS of this vintage was the vacuum bellows used to open the throttle (would crack at the edge (easy to test: QUICKLY using an UNCONTROLLED vacuum line... or vacuum test pump)),

Professional grade SHOP MANUALS usually have decent wiring diagrams & schematics... but
FACTORY (DEALER) MANUALS are the absolute best...!!

At the bottom I will post an eBay link ... showing the WRONG YEAR... (only to give you and idea what you are looking for)...

1977 dodge needs return fuel function or possible replacement

I would like to answer your question but I can't make out what you are trying to say. A 1977 Dodge uses a carburetor which doesn't have a Return Line. Tell me a little better what's going on with the car. Reach me at js.babiasz@yahoo.com I'll be happy to answer your questions for FREE

I'm trying to find an ignition wiring diagram for my 1977 dodge melmar fargo f40 rv

The ignition circuit should be the same as any 1977 Dodge truck, which is basically battery to ignition switch, start side of switch bypasses ballast resistor and goes directly to coil, run side of switch goes to ballast resistor (on firewall) and then to coil. This is done so that you have full 12 volts to coil when starting thus giving higher voltage to plugs to start, but lower amps, but when running you go through the resistor to get lower volts (about 7) to coil to increase amps for a fatter spark and better fuel economy.

Truck stalls when driving in town or freeway with no warning cold or warm. i have replaced the ignition coil, computer, m.a.p.sensor, cat converter

I am not sure about your particular truck but I had a 1977 pickup which had the same symptoms. It would shut off completely without warning and NO electronics would work. It turned out that the ammeter in the dash was riveted to a circuit board through some plastic spacers and over time, the rivets had streched and would loose contact. I just soldered the rivet heads with some rosin core solder and that fixed it. I have since seen a number of trucks which had fires in the instrument panel or had a charred circuit board in that same place. It is really an easy fix if that is your problem. Hope this helps...
