I just changed the fuel filter on my 2004 kia rio. I am getting gas to the fuel rail when i turn the car on and let the pump run for a couple of seconds. I can not get the car to start though. Any ideas?

It sounds like a fuel pressure problem.Although you have fuel to the rail the injectors will not pulse unless the pressure is right.Any chance the line got some dirt in it,the line got crimped,or perhaps(I,m not being funny because I'VE done this )put the filter in backwards. good luck

Testimonial: "Thank you for your response. Yes I would agree with you that is is a fuel pressure problem. I did put the filter in the correct way. The way that it is set up, there is only one way to put it in, assuming I made a good connections. I was careful not to get dirt in the line, but that does not mean that I didn't get any in. I have had a couple of people tell my my pump just is not putting enough out (I tested right after the pump and it shot a couple of inches, not sure if that is good enough?). Ran an OBD2 test on it tonight and didnt see anything. When I was looking at the line by the fuel rail I never had any kind of pressure up there. Sorry if I was rambling, I was just trying to give you more information. Thank you again for your response and if you think of anything please let me know"

The pressure in an injector rail should have sent the fuel across the room.Take out the new filter and put the old one back,or by pass it altogether with some hose and see if there is any difference if the car ran before you changed it there has to be a problem there somewhere.good luck

Why my 2002 kia rio stalles out everytime i step on the acceleration and keeps getting worse i changed spark pluggs and air filter and fuel filter please help me oh and everytime i go up hills i loss speed...

you need to check your fuel pressure at the rail with a gauge. But to me it sounds like the spark plug boots . If they crack or split it will cause symptoms just like yours, mostly shaking while under load. Since you already changed the plugs change the boots or wires too.

Where is it on 2002 kia rio fuel test port don't

You would have to test the fuel pressure on this vehicle by connecting to the line coming from the fuel filter to the fuel rail, there is no actual fuel test port on this vehicle. if you do decide to test the pressure... here is what your pressure readings should be>> Fuel Line Pressure 46-51 psi (320-350 kPa)
This actually sounds like a Fuel Pressure Regulator issue. I would recommend replacing the regulator and see how the vehicle responds after that..

Hope this helps...

Are you sure theres power to new fuel pump ?
Does the fuel pump make a small humming noise when you turn the key to the start possition ?

Kia mentor 1997 will not start have tried new coil, spark is alright but yet wont fire

If you have spark, then the next thing to look for would be fuel to fuel rail and good pressure, if low pressure, change fuel filter, check for faulty fuel pressure regulator and check fuel pump relay. If you are getting good fuel pressure, the next thing to look for is a faulty sensor

buy some brake clean. spray a little in throttle body. if it starts and stalls you need a fuel pump or you lost power to the fuel pump. If nothing changes you may have a bad crank sensor or ignition issue.
