1997 toyota camry overheated due to no coolant in tank. Burnt a hole in the radiator hose got it replaced. Let it cool for the night. Now it wont crank up

Probably blown engine. Using a long wrench or a wrench with a breaker bar try turning the crankshaft. If it will not turn your engine is blown and will need rebuild or replacement.

My 1998 mazda protege overheated and now it wont start

SOUND LIKE BLOWED HEAD GASKET.BUT WAIT TO SEE IF ENGINE WILL CRANK WHEN ENGINE COOL DOWN.MOST CARS PCM WILL SHUT CAR DOWN TO KEEP FROM DAMAGING THE ENGINE.CHECK FOR LOW COOLANT.YOUR OVERHEATING PROBLEM COULD BE CAUSED BY BAD THERMOSTAT OR WATER PUMP.CHECK PUMP WEEP HOLE TO SEE IF LEAKING.IF YES REPLACE WATER PUMP.

Lost all my oil. mechanic says my crank is walking. engine is not good any more

If ou lost all your oil while driving or started the engine before you noticed the problem it would only take a minute or so to ruin your engine. The "crank walking" refers to the fact that there is excessive wear in the bearings and need to be replaced. That is an expensive proposition because you need to totally disassemble the engine to do it and the crank will have to be turned before it can be put back together. It would be cheaper to find a good used engine and replace yours than it would be to rebuild it. Hope this helps.

The engine has dropped a rod bearing, what can I do

You will have to rebuild or replace the engine, you can't just replace the bearing. If you have good mechanical ability then you could remove the engine yourself, send out the block, head and crank and re-assemble it yourself with new bearings. You could remove the engine and send it to an engine rebuilding shop which is a better idea because it will come back with warranty or you could find a used engine in a scrapyard. A used engine will come with a short warranty, they'll usually replace it if it's no good within 30 days.
If you are going to rebuild it yourself then go to faxonautoliterature and order the service manual for the car because VW engines are very particular about how they are put together and it must be done the way the book says or you will have wasted your money. Hope this helps.

Knocking at 2 to 3 thousand rpms

If you didnt have the crank ground or the rods resized and over sized bearings instaled then the issue with your engine is beyond advice other than remove engine and rebuild correctly as there is too much clearance and the oil cannot build enough pressure especialy when hot as it thins out and becomes harder to maintain pressure.Your problem is crankshaft bearings have excessive clearances or oil pumps pressure relief valve is jammed/jamming.good luck and hope its just the pump.
