I would be checking the fuel pump pick up in the tank ( no fuel) as a working pump is fairly quite and becomes loud when there is no fuel to pump.

2001 honda passport not getting fuel

First off, do you hear the fuel pump priming when you turn on the key. Should hear a light buzzing from the fuel tank for approx. 5 seconds. Have you opened the pressure line or the pressure test port on the fuel line on top of the engine to see if you are getting any fuel even trickling out especially during the priming. Pressure should be in the neighborhood of 45-50 psi for the system. A fuel pump can slowly fail, by losing pressure, but still can move some fuel if you hear it running oon the prime cycle. You can often borrow a fuel pressure guage from your local chain auto parts store to actually see what's goin on with the fuel system. You hook it up to the test port on the fuel rail and watch the pressure on the prime cycle. If it is very low, try priming the system 3 or 4 times to see if pressure builds, if not that would lead to testing the pressure regulator. But that's for next time.

Hello. I have a 1985 olds cutalss supreme 3.8 v6.. i believe my fuel pump is goin bad.. the other day i went to the store and came out.. tried to start it.. but it just wouldn't start. after a while it...

I believe you are correct in saying your fuel pump is going bad...the tapping made it work again ...this is a very common problem. A time will come though when tapping it won't do the trick, so you need to replace the pump asap. Be sure to get a new fuel filter when you change the pump or it may void the warranty on the new pump.

Torago 1998 model 4cly 2y motor wants to start just wont checked starter motor plugs think it might be fuel pump taken fuel filter off seems to be little or no fuel coming though but can smell petrol

If there was no Pressure or fuel in the line then the pump is defective. Did you half to bleed the fuel line pressure off to get the filter disconnected from the fuel line. Can you hear the pump run when the key is on, you should be able to hear it run. And if you can hear it running then you can check the fuel pump pressure the motor does not half to be running to do this. Good Luck and have a good XMASS.

Does a fuel pump make a grinding noise while idiling

fuel pump noises vary from model to model however, it should be a smoth humming or steady sound at idle not a grinding or pulsing sound. A inexpensive way to improve your fuel system is to replace the fuel filter. This is relatively inexpensive and can save wear and tear on your fuel pump. Remember, if you do replace a fuel pump always replace the fuel filter and make sure that you replace the fuel strainer. A plugged fuel filter can quickly ruin a fuel pump. I also recommend flushing the fuel tank if the old fuel strainer has more than very small amounts of rust or dirt.

I Have a 1988 Chevy 454 motor in an RV. I have added a new inline electric fuel pump to replace the mechanical one. The fuel pump worked last year but now all I hear is a loud ticking noise from the pump...

Most electric pumps have a low hum to them. There are some that pulse, but I have never seen one just click. You may have a bad pump. Good Luck

sounds like you may have to replace your fuel filter is it origional or have you replaced it before ? if the fuel pump is screaming then there is usually a restriction in the line sometimes caused by dirty fuel filter , its also possible that the electric fuel pump is on its way out they will screem when they are ready to retire first replace fuel filter and monitor the sound if it comes back after replacing the filter then you will need to have a pump replaced .also check the level of fuel in your tank when you hear the noise sometimes the level of gas in the tank drops leaving the fuel pump unsubmerged in the fuel making it easier to hear the noise follow me . replace fuel filter and diagnose the sound from there thanks for using a fine web tool like fixya
