Question about 2005 Chevrolet Malibu
The oil filter is located at the front of the engine and is under the plastic engine cover. Pull off the oil cap and give the cover a slight tug, it should come off. the filter is a canister filter and you will need a big socket I think a 36 mm and a long extension. Leave the oil plug out when you pull the filter as it holds about a half qrt of oil. The filter element is just snapped into the cap. replace the filter and o-ring and tighten it back down untill snug. Do not crank that baby on there or it will never come back off! Put the drain drain plug back in, make sure you get the o-ring in the correct groove or it will leak. And yes OTC filters work just fine. Gm has used this design for almost 8 years
