Also make sure you have routed the belt properly...improper routing will make the belt seem to short or to long

Crank on that tensioner & use your fingers to roll it on the pulley,all belts ****.

I personally use either a very long breaker bar with socket. (like socket wrench with no ratchet movement.) I also use very long prybar but is hard with one person, so I usually use breaker bar which gives you plenty of movement.
