Either switch the ignition on and then off, while someone listens for a click or if you have a connector near it leave the ignition key on and unplug the connector while listening for the click.

Albert, Have truck scanned for trouble codes. To test a transmission solenoid, use hand held ohm meter. Instructions in second link below, the attached links are informative on the different procedures used to test solenoids.

Shift solenoid. Hard to tell with one is bad because there is no way to really test them. However your may have 4 solenoids in your transmission.

My 1993 Gmc Sierra 2500 automatic first gear shifts hard also from park to drive others gears are smooth i have overdrive


The gear shift lever indicators tell you what gear you have an automatic transmission in on your vehicle. The shift solenoid tells the transmission when to shift gears and what gear to shift into. Newer model automatic transmissions have electronic shift solenoids that are activated and change gears based on the speed the vehicle is traveling. Troubleshooting either one of these transmission components is relatively easy if you know a little about automobile mechanics. With the right tools, you can determine whether the transmission shift solenoid is having a problem. Gear shift indicator problems can be determined simply by moving the gears into their designated position.
Transmission Shift Solenoid
  • 1 Raise each corner of the vehicle up with the car jack and place jack stands under the frame. Make sure the car is raised high enough so you can work under the car freely.
  • 2 Slide the drain pan under the transmission fluid drain plug. Remove the drain plug with a ratchet and socket, and let all the fluid drain out of the transmission. Remove the transmission pan bolts with a ratchet and socket. Pull the pan away from the bottom of the transmission, revealing the transmission shift solenoid.
  • 3 Wipe off the shift solenoid with a shop towel. Disconnect one of the two plugs that attaches to the shift solenoid. Turn the knob on the volt meter to the ohms setting, so resistance can be measured. Set the volt meter on 200.
  • 4 Take the black lead of the volt meter and touch the negative battery terminal wire. Take the red lead of volt meter and slide the tip into the terminal plug you just disconnected from the shift solenoid. Look at the reading you get on the digital display of your volt meter. Determine if the reading is between 12 and 25. Readings below 12 or above 25 tell you that the shift solenoid is not working. Reattach the plug to the shift solenoid and pull the second plug attached to the solenoid. Perform the same procedures on this plug wire. Replace the transmission shift solenoid after determining it is bad.
Gear Shift Indicator
  • 1 Move the gear shift into the desired gear. Look at the gear labels and the arrow, or other indicator, to see if the gear shift indicator lines up with the selected gear.
  • 2 Move the gear lever to another gear and look to see if the indicator lines up with the selected gear. Misalignment of the arrow will tell you if there is a problem. Moving the gear shift to "neutral" but having the indicator show the transmission is in "drive" tells you the gear shift indicator is not working properly.
  • 3 Try each gear position to determine how much misalignment is in the indicator. Slide under the car and check for a loose gear shift cable. Check all the gear shift cable connections to ensure they are all tight and are not missing. Tighten any loose gear shift cable clamps or bolts. Replace the gear shift cable if you find that this is causing the misalignment with the gear shift indicator.

I am getting this error code that "Solenoid 1 or


Those solenoids are supposed to move that valves inside the transmission, they are used to change the gears. If they are mechanically faulty then they are jammed.
This means that the valve assembly has been damaged beyond repair either by a mechanical shock (you hit something and the assembly broke) or you used the wrong transmission oil.
The valve assembly will have to be completely replaced. The transmission will have to be dismantled for that.

not enough details... I'll do my best guess though:
does the shifter move and the transmission not "catch"? If so -- you have either a broken wire leading into the transmission solenoid, bad solenoid in the transmission,. no oil, low oil,. or otherwise if the linkage from the shifter broke or in need of adjustment..

Problems with my 2004 Nissan maxima transmission is **** from 1st to 2nd What your think can be the problem


Ok, I am about to solve the mistery on the transmission problems with these 2004 and 2005 Nissan Maxima.
I had 2 Maxima's 2004, let's call car A with a bad transmission and good motor, and car B with good transmission and bad motor.
1. I swap engines from car B to car A, after that, car A runned good with not a single issue.
2. Car B was with out and engine and a bad transmission,
3. I found a motor and transmission from a wrecked salvage 2005 Nissan Maxima with only 25,000 miles in it,
4. After the installation of the good engine and transmission on car B, I found a broken solenoid,
lets call the good engine and transmission (SET).
5. Remember car A is fixed, but car B had a bad transmission.
6. After removing the bad transmission from car B, the SET had a broken transmission solenoid called (pressure control valve solenoid) cause by the accident, the transmission valve cover had a small dent, right where the solenoid is, that how it got broke,
7. Since I still had the bad transmission from car B, the solenoid from that transmission were good in shape, so I thought I was lucky enough to swap the solenoid from car B to the SET,
after I did that I was good to go very confident that car B was going to run fine, but it did not.
8. Car B with a 25,000 miles SET end it up doing the exact same problem that it had before with the transmission, it is near impossible that the problem is the wear on the valve body since the SET only has 25,000 miles and I only swap the solenoid. 2 of them to be exact.
8. Now I am in the market to buy just the 2 brand new solenoids and cross my fingers, Nissan for some reason, they dont want to sell the solenoids by them self, you need to get the complete valve body assy. and shops are happy with that idea cause it is more money on the pocket for dealers and shops, so I hope is the solenoids, they are really easy to replace, just by removing the valve body cover and remove 2 bolts, 1 for each solenoid and that's it. I called one guy who owens a shop and I ask him if he sells the solenoids remanufactured and he started yelling cause he is thinking that we are stupids since he had many people asking about these solenoids and he is saying that the problem is the valve body it self, he make me mad because I only asked him for the solenoids not to try to make me buy the new valve body assy. I will follow up after I find the solenoids and replace these on my Maxima just to confirm, any questions e mail me back at aslk1209@hotmail.com thanks

I have a 96 escort 1.9 liter I just got and the auto transmission takes a while to shift so I have to let the car warm up a while first so it shifts quick. A mechanic said some escorts trans are like that...


if it warms up and runs ok? then i would say that it needs a tranny flush and new fluid and if dont fix it i would check the transmission control unit and then check the transmission solenoids see if they getting proper voltage and not damaged and you can have them taken to autozone and they can check them <-- i believe/ u can usuas;;y tell iff one not working by its broke or really bad looking hope this helps

the solenoid pack is located on the valve body inside the transmission, u must remove the trans pan to access it for replacement

Car hits hard when stepping on gas


Personally I would take it to another reputable shop in the area for a diagnosis & estimate. My guess is that the cost wouldn't be too much if anything, and then you have an expert opinion to go on, how can they dispute it ? If it's nissan warranty, call their customer service number in your manual, and get them working for you too. A Transmission or motor mount problem could also be diagnosed by a good transmission shop.
