I have a 95. Gmc k1500 5.7l 350 4x4 I was redoing my radio decided to crank the truck so it wouldn't die, but it didn't crank. Checked fuses, all fine except the previous owner had a jumper wire set up in there just don't know where. The truck also has a toggle switch that leads to the ignition coil and the underhood fuse box. Could really use the help seeing how I need this vehicle to start a new job

The toggle switch to the coil may be a anti theft device ( crude but effective ) and the wire to the switch may come from the run circuit on the ignition switch. When the toggle switch is off then there is no power to the coil hence no start. I think this one you will have to spend time tracing out

There may be no injector pulse if the computor does not see a RPM signal.
There will be no spark if the ignition module does not see a dist pulse from the dist pickup.......a RPM signal.
Because you do not have both ......I would suggest to check/change the dist pick up.
Follow the wires from the ignition module inside the dist to the pickup which is also inside the dist.
If it is just a bad dist pickup....keep all your old parts as good spares.
Also...is the dist turning? to provide a RPM signal?
You will have to remove the dist to change the pick-up.....mark your timing locations......"rotor position" and "dist body location"before removal.
A quick test before installing the "repaired dist" .....plug it in the the truck wiring and turn on the key....DO NOT CRANK THE ENGINE OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR DIST ROTOR CORRECT POSITION......as you spin the dist by hand .....the injectors should spray.

First thing to check for is if the starter has a thermal overcrank or not, thermal overcrank sensor is located right on the starter it should have two wires going to the connector, check to make sure you have a ground to one wire at key engine off, next if ground is present on one wire plug back into sensor on starter and make sure ground is bridge or present on other wire, if ground is not transfer to other circuit when plugged in then thermal overcrank sensor is bad than just jump circuit or replace sensor, now if ground is not present on either circuit at key on engine off than applied ground to both wire and retest starter cranking at key switch, please update once test is complete, thanks.

Ignition switch and neutral safety switch. Next time it happens wiggle thekeys in the ignition switch and try to restart.If it starts its probably the ignition switch. Then locate neutral safety switch on brake pedal and put meter on B+ wire from switch to starter relay and see if you get B+ on the would -be- crank. Next locate B+ wire from starter relay to starter hook a meter to it and see if you get B+ on the would -be crank.
Where ever B+ is missing is your problem.

It's when the security light starts flashing that the infamous "chip" in the key becomes a nightmare to many. Gradually the car begins not cranking anymore or if it cranks it would start and die in a second. Randomly it will do this more and more often until it won't start anymore. VATS, PASSkey and Passlock immobilizer systems are killing cars all over North America, they have a short lifespan and are certainly more effective against owners than thieves. Here is how you save your car
1st trick, Try a spare key that is newer or used less. The pins wear down and so do the keys causing security fail. 2nd trick, (if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. I did this in my regal for more than a year. If its shutting down while running, im sorry i have no quick fix... Cheap fix: Bypass the chip in your key. Temporary, but effective. Until the TDM (theft deterrent module) in the dash poops out, then you're kinda screwed. I was told that these types of key security systems have a 7-10 year life span. Sucks for us. This link explains the "Key Issue" pretty well.

Never worry again fix: Bypass the whole VATS/Passlock/passkey I or passkey II system entirely. Literally take it out, and throw it away. I just did this in my Regal. Took about an hour. Took longer to find the thing than it did to fix the problem. They sell a unit for 200 bucks to totally bypass this system FOREVER. life time-money back and all that. Finally did this in my car. Well worth the 200 if you've looked into getting this replaced... Anywhere from 600-1000 bucks. If you do buy this, please purchase it thru this link. I have a 1995 gmc sierra c1500 and the radio in it stopped working. The last time I drove the truck it worked perfectly fine then somebody left my key turned so my battery died. I recharged the battery...


You also have a fuse in the fuse box that is for the radio is the radio the only thing that is not working because sometimes there are more than one fuse that controls the radio

95 Camry Dies While Driving


It's gotta be the distributor. They are a common fault for that model and I actually have the same model as you. They are very sensitive to water as well. Easy part to replace if you are a do it yourself kind of person. If the distributor goes bad, you can crank it all day long and it wont spark.
You say your rpm gauge was steady the whole time? That sounds like something else but i'll stick with my original guess. Throw a used one in it from a wrecking yard if you like. Make sure to keep the adjuster bolts in the same place as your current position as that is your timing.
Distributor is located on the right side on the top of the engine and have the wires for the spark plugs going into it. you will need a 10mm socket to remove the 2 bolts holding it in. Its easier to do if you disconnect the air intake as well by simply using a screw driver. Any more questions, I'd be happy to answer. All the best

My best guess without being able to see the car is that the battery hard wiring is faulty.

You need to check both the condition, routing and security of the battery negative and positive leads.
You also need to check the security and condition of any additional earth leads which connect the engine to the chassis/body.

My 2007 dodge charger didn't crank so I jumped it


A battery from 07 is still decently new to be that bad, but I would check the alternator first, just get the car running and unhook the positive cable from the battery, if the car dies the alternator is bad.

1992 GMC break lights wouldn't work but tail lights, blinkers were. So I checked fuses and it must have been loose because they started working then went to start it, there was split second of power...


any half *** wiring job could do a number of things from no lights to no radio if its half *** then its not worth a hoot i would have the trailer brake removed unless you plan on using it then i would have a shop redo it trailer brakes when half *** installed can cause problems i prefer a whole *** job rather then a half *** job any day.
