Question about 1960 Morris Minor
Engine model starts with 12a 497 what is the cc rating

I am not an informed enthusiast but I believe that casting number can end up as a variety of engine capacities in a variety of models.
It is not the casting number that is important but the engine number that as standard is stamped on an aluminium plate and riveted to a pad provided for the purpose on the top of the cylinder block. The plate is often removed during engine overhaul and rarely refitted, though sometimes the number or a number is then stamped directly into the cast iron where the plate was.
The number will usually start with the prefix 99H or similar and the capacity of the engine is likely to be 997 cc or 948cc though without the engine number and a degree of experience and reference matter it could be almost anything from 848 to 1275 considering how people commonly sourced replacement engines for their old cars.
