Check your fuel pressure. If you have no fuel pressure then look for a wiring problem. Possible inertia switch engaged or disconnected. Spray some starter fluid into the throttle body. If it start s it is a fuel problem. Check for spark at plugs. Check if the injectors are getting current to fire from the ecm. 2004 2008 F150 Died Out No Crank Theft Light Engine Compartment Clicking...
Do real fuel pressure test using test gauge. You changed ignition module but not coil? Are you getting nice fat blue spark? When spraying starter fluid into intake it only tries to start which makes me think you have ignition problem.
To clarify, you said it runs for 20 min then quits, and it won't start again until it cools off. Have you checked for spark at the plugs and fuel pressure right after it quits running ? These models have an ignition module attached to the side of the distributor that has a history of failing when hot. The coil and the pickup inside the distributor can fail too. Could also be a relay.
Did you check the fuel pump pressure before and after the pumps ? You'll have to figureout if it is a fuel or ignition problem.Isthe check engine light on ? Usually a "jerking" engine is an ignition problem. You have a distributor and an ignition module that could be the problem too.
check for fuel pressure and ignition spark. Turn ignition switch to run position while listening for fuel pump to run in gas tank. If no sound then fuel pump is either not getting voltage or pump is bad. If not getting spark from plug wires then take off ignition module and have it checked at your local parts store. both problems are very common. Good luck
Do you have any engine codes? Does your fuel pump turn on and do you get sufficient fuel pressure? Do you get spark? Power to plugs, ignition module, coil packs?
Check and see if u have spark to the plugs, if you don't replace the TFI ignition module on the distributor and the pickup inside the distributor, the dist must be removed to do this coil pickup replacement.

also check the fuel pressure if the spark is ok, the ignition is the ,most common issue.
