Question about Mercedes-Benz 190-Class

Open Question

Mercedes A190 just been MOT'd, now keeps stalling

I have a 1999 A190 Avantgarde automatic. It's just been MOT'd and had coil springs and suspension arms replaced. In the 3 weeks since if I'm slowing down it sometimes runs out of power and stalls, all the instrument lights come on and I have to stop, put it into park and start it up again. This happens at junctions and on roundabouts. It feels like the revs aren't timed properly and there isn't enough power coming through.I moved area the day after the MOT so its not possible to take the car back to that garage.

SOURCE: Why does my 91 VW Jetta stall out and lose power while driving?

I had a similar problem and the mechanic diagnosed it as a problem with the ignition coil. So you might want to get that checked.

Is there any difference on the coil spring between avantgarde and elegance/classic model? I had my right side changed only due to cost wise but it seems there is a difference of gaps (wheel housing and...

You do not say if you had the shock absorber changed at the same time..Springs normally break due to the shock absorber losing hydraulic fluid and the spring has to take all the force of any normal impacts from the pot holes and bumps.. In all cases it is best to change both the coil spring and shock absorber on both sides just to avoid the problem you are describing. i am certain your garage would have fitted the correct item(s) for your model.

check springs they might look fine but if only one coil has snapped then it will sit where it usually does m8 any sharp edges can be a indication, i think this vehicle has air powered/aided suspension but not 100% sure could be worth checking with mercedes, thanks jezza

I taen my car for m.o.t on monday 29 june and they said my nearside rear coil spring incomplete and i can not fine were it is incomplete plz can u send som info on how to fine it plz and thank u

It would help if you had stated the exact make and model of car.

"Nearside rear coil spring incomplete" is very vague but probably means that the spring is either broken or that the entire assembly is missing some components. Best ask your MOT tester exactly what the comment means.

As for repairs, then with all due respect if you cannot recognise the spring to start with then there is no way that you're experienced enough to repair it. The repair is usually straightforward on all vehicles fitted with similar suspension and basically involves using spring compressors to take the spring pressure off the surrounding components and then unbolting the attachments for the strut or suspension arm. ot overly difficult, time consuming nor ridiculously expensive. But the repair can be dangerous to the mechanic if the wrong tools are used (or if the correct tools are used incorrectly) and it can be dangerous for everyone if the repair is done incompetently.

all of the suspension is low or only one of the suspension?
if only one of the suspension very low... most the the problem is the air bellow in the suspension strut crack.. need to replace new suspension strut.
