Why does my 1989 Olds cutless ciera starter connections get red hot when starting the engine.

Before you do anything make sure your battery cables are clean and tight. Loose cables can do this as well. If that's not the problem
sounds like your starter is drawing too much power and is on it's way out. Could cause a fire Better get it fixed.

I have a 94 olds cutlass ciera. I have replaced the battery, new cables, altenator, starter, and I have a re-current problem of turning the ignition and I get a click, and then finally it starts.

The click is the solenoid not getting enough power to energise the starter and engage the pinion gear. Either the battery is weak or the connections going in the starter circuit have excessive resistance and need to be tightened/cleaned.

Most likely it's your headlight switch. Get a replacement from a junkyard

Have 91 cutless ciera that just died out while at red light. wont crank battery seems good. tapped starter and got a spark then it cranked but sounded rough like grinding. suggestions?

My first guess would be a bad connection. If it will not crank the problem has to be between the battery and the starter, including the key switch and the neutral safety switch.
If the torque converter locked up it would act like the transmission was engaged.

Trying to replace a starter on a 95 olds cutless ciera sl, how many bolts are there to remove?

Just on a hunch, before you go switching the starter, make sure there is no light on the dash that says "security" when it wont start. The Vats security that is in your car, (little black chip in key) is know for shutting of starters. If so, check out this link. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/
