SOURCE: 2003 Ranger FX-II ABS light on

This isn't hard to do at all really and should be easy to procure the part from the local parts store. There is only one little screw holding it in

  1. Raise and support vehicle.

  2. NOTE: Clean off dirt and foreign material that may have collected around the rear anti-lock brake sensor before removal. Remove the rear anti-lock brake sensor.
1 Disconnect the rear anti-lock brake sensor electrical connector. 2 Remove the bolt. 3 Remove the rear anti-lock brake sensor.
  1. NOTE: Thoroughly clean the mounting surface. NOTE: Inspect the anti-lock brake sensor O-ring for damage; lightly lubricate the O-ring with axle lubricant. To install, reverse the removal procedure

Short in signal lights

If your ABS light comes on and it blinks on and off and you have no signal lights working. You have a short in your tow hitch wiring. Disconnect or replace the wiring and change your fuse to your ABS system. The ABS light will stop blinking and it will stay off.

Abs light stays on and is flashing a i think acode

hi Robert

you can check the ABS fault code as following:

switch ignition on and wait for the abs light to start to flash.
it will flash in long and short flashes, long flash stands for ten, short flash stands for one, there is a short pause in between, and long pause after each code, take a note of the code and Google it
good luck

ABS Light Stays On

Since you replaced the pick up units or sensors, check the tone rings on the axle shafts. The tone rings is what the sensors detect and are located at each wheel that has ABS. A tone ring looks like this:

This tone ring is on a Ford Ranger - which is pretty much the same as your Mointaineer. Notice the break in the tone ring. This will cause an ABS Fault indicator and will need to be replaced to extinguish the lamp. Check the brake fluid level and top off if needed.

Try another AutoZone or similiar to get a code and be non-specific about the light - just say a light came on on the dash and you don't know what it is about.

Good luck!

When front wheel bearings replaced, abs sensor indicator damaged. abs light stays on

Take it back to the garage and make them pay for it. If it was damaged while they were replacing the bearing, it's their fault.

The brake pads and shoes are not elec., your abs light is on because your abs computer pick up a bad signal from one of your abs sensor's,, take it to any auto parts or some one like autozone where they can do a code reading and get back us with the code so we can help you diag. your trouble code.

ABS light won't turn off.

It could be that changing the switch told the ABS there was a fault. Try removing the fuse for the ABS and waiting 5 minutes for it to reset. ---I had a small ABS issue with my Volvo and the ABS fuse had blown. Good luck-- and if this helped can you give a rating?

Abs light comes on. it is somewhat intermittant, but comes on and stays on more often than not. 1993 ford ranger.

I had the same problem with my 93 ranger. You ether blew a break line or you have a master cylinder problem.
