This machine is equipped with an automatic belt tensioner do NOT need to have their belts adjusted. Be sure, however, to inspect/replace the belts at the proper intervals. A bad belt is always bad news because when it snaps, all drive power to whatever it turns is lost. That means the water pump quits circulating coolant through the engine, the alternator quits producing amps, the power steering pump ceases to assist steering, and the air conditioner quits cooling.

If the tensioner isn't working right, you replace it. Tension is determined by the tensioner and is not adjustable.

Thanks

Belt idler pully or tensioner pully maybe . Pull the serpentine belt off an see if the noise goes away . Just running the engine for a second or two you should be able to tell , an this will not hurt anything .

How do i take of a pulley and tensioner of a 94 Dodge Caravan 3.0 L V6

You'll need a Serpentine Belt Tool and a socket set.

Rotate the Caravan's serpentine belt tensioner assembly clockwise to relieve the tension on the belt. Slip the belt off the tensioner with your free hand before rotating the tensioner back to its home position. Remove the tool.
Extract the two mounting bolts that hold the serpentine belt tensioner assembly to the Caravan's front engine cover using your socket set. Depending on your physical size and dexterity, you may find this easier to accomplish through the top of the engine well or through the passenger-side wheel well.
Pull the old serpentine belt tensioner assembly out of the Caravan's engine bay by hand. Place the new serpentine belt tensioner assembly on the Caravan's front engine cover and bolt it in using your socket set.
Rotate the new serpentine belt tensioner assembly clockwise with the serpentine belt tool and then place the belt on the pulley by hand. Rotate the new serpentine belt tensioner assembly back into place. Remove the tool and close the hood.

Need a picture of how the belt goes on mine came off 1995 dodge caravan

When you buy the belt from Orielly's auto parts you can ask for a diagram for the routing of the belt. The belt tensioner is located near the middle of the engine towards the left. It can be adjusted by using a wrench but be careful it has a lot of tension. All you have to do is put the wrench on the center bolt and pry up or down until it moves.

Misalignment of the belt, incorrect belt, worn or loose tensioner, Too tight of an adjustment (many service centers do this on purpose so when the belt breaks in it becomes properly adjusted, I do not believe in this philosophy), The belt is actually one long belt called a serpentine belt.....

I am trying to put on the engine belt for a 1992 Dodge Grand Caravan with a 3.3L engine with air conditioning. Do you have any diagrams that show the positioning of the belt and where are the tighteners to...

54162ee.jpgI normally find it easier to put belt on all pulleys below and then slip it on alternator last, that way I can hold wrench on tensioner with one hand, and slip belt on alternator at same time. Not easy, but if long wrench, or pipe over box-end wrench on tensioner, will make it easier.

Where is the belt adjuster to relaese the belt from pulleys

This engine configuration probably uses an adjustable idler bearing and wheel assembly to apply tension to the serpentine belt that drives almost all the accessories. You'll need to loosen, (DO NOT REMOVE!) the hub bolt, then turn the adjusting bolt behind the wheel to provide the slack you need.
Or, did you mean the timing belt? That one has an oil-filled tensioner that requires clamp compression to collapse down the right clearance. Did that help? Let us know...accordianman

Serpentine belt replacement

What engine do you have? The 3.3 and 3.8 engines have a single serpentine belt, and a belt tensioner, so no adjustment is needed. Did you replace the tensioner, and want to know how much to torque it? countrycurt0
