-Make sure parking brake is apply, block all wheels. -Lose the shift cable connector at transmission control arm. Turn the arm to park position and push the shift handle to park, then tight it.
The first thing you do is verify the brake lights work, the park lock will not release unless the brake pedal is depressed and the brake circuit is energized.
The Dodge Magnum and Charger shifters are having issues that result in being unable to shift from park. There is a small plastic cog in the gear shift assembly that ends up going bad... if this is the case for you, you are not alone. The dealer's remedy is to replace the ENTIRE shift assembly because they don't sell parts for it. There is a company called "Billet technologies" and they sell a metal machined replacement part and they have links to illustrated replacement of the part. It does involve taking the console apart, and part of the radio bezel out of the car. It's involved but it can be done... I recommend checking for any warranty first, then if you feel daring, you can order the part and have at it. I personally own a 05 Magnum and the shifter is sticking now and then. We shut the car off and restart and sometimes it releases. I'm going to spray lube down the openings of the shifter to keep things freed up until I can replace the cog inside. Hope this helps... K
Billettechnologies.com sells a replacement cog to put your shifter backinto action. Their part replaces a factory plastic piece...no wonderthese are failing at a fast rate. Here is the LINK to make this change out of parts...
Hi buy saying stuck in parking is that the selector does not come out of parking if so check the brake switch this switch also releases the selector lock good luck
water intrusion in the junction block is kina what it sounds like to me. they were doing a recall on this vehicle. there was corrosion happening to the wires.
the noise is the relay clicking for the shift lock release....the auto door lock setting needs to be turned on...it should tell you how in the owners manual...
I had the same problem. The interlock was not the problem. I had the shifter replaced (at my own expense because drive train warranty would not cover). After examining the old shifter discovered source of problem is a plastic cam on the front of ths shifter. A tiny PLASTIC ear which connects to a small spring had broken off. I repaired this by putting in a small screw where the ear had been. Incidentally, my tow truck driver had also seen the same problem on several Chrysler 300s. In my estimation this is a poor design on Chrysler's part.
