Question about 2007 Kia Sorento LX 4x4
Sorento 2004 when car is idle and air conditioning on it makes a loud humming sound...it comes like from below the glove compartment...help! I changed the evaporator about 3 months ago and repaired the compressor as well. Had the blower changed, and it keeps making the noise.
The only time i have encountered this problem it turned out to be a cracked fan wheel in the blower. fooled me until the fanwheel disengrated and locked up the blower motor.. could be trash in the blower too like leaves, plastic bag etc.

It is either the tesnioner or the belt....easy way to find out is to spray the pulley that has no grooves....that's the tensioner. Spray it with WD-40 or equivalent, in the middle of the pulley. That is the bearing housing. Spray only that first. Start the motor...if it goes away, then you have found your problem. Try not to spray the belt.
If it still squeals, spray the belt with the engine running. If it squeals, replace the belt.
Has anything been done to the motor recenlty? If so, one of the pulleys may be a little off-centered.
Let me know what you find.

Look at the AC pump. See if the belt is there, slipping, or the pully clutch engaging.
The center of the AC pully can be standing still while the outside turns. There is supposed to be a magnet that grabs the outside and locks it to the inside when you turn the AC on. The magnet could be bad or its clutch slipping.

SOURCE: My 2005 Kia Sorento makes
screeching is definitely the belt slipping on pulley tighten tension a little and rub bar soap onit to quiet, best to replace wiwith a cogged belt, also realize that A/C compressor clutch (on pulley) or assembly may be near failure creating more drag on it...
