Usually just letting everything dry will do the trick. As long as you didn't spray water into the intake.

Chances are you got water on the ignition components.

SOURCE: Charging problem.. Wont charge battery

The instructions for installing a new alternator usually read to fully charge the battery (12.3 - 12.8 volt range). Otherwise, the alternator will be damaged when it initializes. I have seen some extreme damage result from installing a new alternator with a low-charge battery. The torque required to turn an alternator when damaged in this scenario is unbelieveable!

Sounds like you created a potential short when you washed the engine. one of your sensors may be tempoarily shorted. I would wait for the water to dry out and see if the problem is still there. if the check engine light came on you could have the codes pulled by autozone or advance autoparts

You probably will have to take your Mazda to a mechanic and have everything replaced that you ruined by power washing the engine.

93 jeep grand cherokee 5.2l (dies out and runs very ruff)

Well that wasnt a great idea to Powerwash the engine but just wondering has this been a problem for a while of just after the power wash... bc if its just after the wash then you should just let your distributor dry out if not that just check you wireharness and see if you got standing moisture in your plugs

Starter kick back

If this is a gas engine, check the ignition coil or plug wires. A simple test...

Start the truck at night, then look under the hood while it's running. Don't use a flashlight or your headlights; it should be dark !

If you see sparks anywhere around the engine, you've found the problem. Now you can turn on a light to see where they're coming from - probably from a cracked ignition coil.

Good luck !

Runs rough and smells of fuel after washing engine!

Don't "wash" the motor, like you wash the outside. Did you pressure wash it? God people are too freakin anal retentive and go screwing up their engines. Next time use engine cleaner and try not wet any wiring harnesses or anything electrical. You probably killed a sensor connection or something.
