Question about 1988 Suzuki Samurai
This is an old car so corrosion, wear and tear etc will have likely contributed to this fault. My guess is that somewhere in the wiring harness is a short that only occurs on startup. ie The heavy starter cable is rubbed through, the wire to the starter solenoid is pinched on the chassis or there is something fundamentally wrong in the start circuit. If this only happens on start then get a good DIYer or local auto electrician to have a good look at the wiring. Ground connections etc. If you continue to try this by fitting fuses there is a likelyhood of setting the car alight.

Check the connections to the starter motor ,might be short to earth or even the starter itself could need replacing
