Question about Cars & Trucks
If this has a carby then clean out the carby for dirt and water as the hand blocks off the air flow and induces pure fuel into the manifold . If fuel injection it is affecting the MAF/MAP sensors so have the fault codes read to find the problem.

Most Fords have a fuel reset button. When you ran out of gas you tripped the circuit. Most of the time the button will be on the passenger side by the kick panel. The exact location should be in your owners manual or your local library or auto parts store will have a copy of one for your specific vehicle.

it could be down to your spark plug leads take the leads out one by one and get somebody to hold the lead to the engine [to earth it] NOT WITH YOUR HAND with something thats not conductive like something plastic then try starting the engine to see if a spark jumps from the lead and repeat this please dont do this with your hand its very dangerous enouf voltage to knock you out!
