A code scan will reset the computer,I'm not sure about a block but the computer stores the ignition and fuel info and if these are dumped from the memory the motor will not start.

I have a 1991 chevy with a 4.3 vortec that just had the engine rebuilt. has spark and gas but wont fire. what could be the cause?

If your 1991 Chevy's 4.3 Vortec engine has spark and fuel, but still fails to ignite, there are several possible reasons to consider. Timing: Make sure the burn time is set correctly. Incorrect timing can prevent the engine from starting. Double-check the timing marks to make sure they align properly. Compression: Make sure the engine has adequate compression. If the pressure is low in one or more cylinders, starting problems may occur. A compression test will help determine this. Fuel Delivery: Even though you said it has gas, pay close attention to the fuel delivery system. Make sure the fuel pump is working properly, the fuel filter is clean, and the fuel lines are not clogged or leaking. Air intake: Inspect air intake for blockages or leaks. A clogged air filter or leaking intake manifold gasket can affect engine performance. Vacuum leaks: Check the vacuum lines and connections for leaks. A vacuum leak can cause an uneven mixture of air and fuel and cause starting problems. Sensors: The engine relies on sensors to send information to the computer unit (ECU). Defective sensors such as the crankshaft position sensor or camshaft position sensor can prevent the engine from stalling. Wiring and connections: Ensure all electrical connections are secure and non-corrosive. Damaged wiring or loose connections can block signals to engine parts. ECU/PCM: The engine's computer (ECU/PCM) can be faulty, preventing proper signals from reaching the engine components. Distributor cap and rotor: If your engine uses a distributor, inspect the distributor cap and rotor for any signs of wear or damage.

1999 Olds 88 engine lock on a cold start. towed it to shop, drained and checked oil. Found nothing, unlocked, rides smooth. before this check engine light for pressure. Any idea why it locked?

This sort of thing happens, but thankfully not often. What probably happened was your ECM (engine computer) detected a very low engine oil pressure and shut down the vehicle to prevent engine damage.
There are times when a glitch can occur with the vehicle sensors, in the datalinks between computers and in the computers themselves. These glitches are very hard to diagnose as they can occur when a random voltage spike is experienced, and there spikes can occur for a variety of reasons.
Obviously, the first thing to do in this case was to check the oil level. If the vehicle experiences this type of problem in future and there is no obvious cause, your best bet is to disconnect the negative cable from the battery, wait a few minutes and then reconnect the cable. This will reset all systems in the vehicle and can restore it to normal operation.

Car wont start resticted performance

You have a powertrain control system problem that is potentially causing to damage your engine or transmission. The "restricted performance" message is simply the computer telling you that it knows what the problem is, and has taken control to prevent further damage. You must scan your onboard computer system to find out the nature of the failure that has caused the computer to take control in this manner.

Somtimes my throttle dose not work on my s500

this car uses electronic throttle controls, when a fault occurs in the electronics the computer (ECM) limits the amount of travel the throttle can open to limit the load on the engine to prevent any further damage, when the fault clears itself as they often do the throttles are returned to normal operation, the limited throttle is called "Limp mode", what u need to do now is have the dealer test the computer (ECM) for fault codes that may be stored to explain why the system was put in "Limp mode" with the resulting loose of throttle control..

Oil light is on and the engine keeps stopping or I can not start my car at all.

Check engine oil level first. If you have oil in the engine and oil light stays on even when cranking you may have too much clearance from a lot of engine wear to make oil pressure switch close. This is a safety feature that is supposed to prevent damage to the engine in case a loss of oil occurs, but may also be a problem if lots of engine wear. In the least case you may be able to buy a new oil pressure switch if you think that it is faulty.

Oil in the water of my perkins engine

Hello, anytime that you have oil in the water of the cooling system of you're engine, what ever make, model, or year, indicates a serious problem has occurred. If this auto has over heated recently, will cause this. I can give you some things that will cause this. A blown head gasket. If so, it will have to be taken to a garage to make repairs. As a matter of fact, you are going to have to take this auto in either way to diagnose which on of these conditions has happened and what you're options are. A cracked in the head, or warped head can cause this. Intake manifold gasket. A cracked engine block.I would get this auto in as soon as possible, have it towed in to prevent further damage in case it is a head gasket.Driving it will cause more damage to the engine. I am sorry to give you this news, but this is something that needs to be looked at asap. Good Luck, and please let me know what they find on this engine. Best of Luck to you, Happy holidays, Sincerely,
Shastalaker7
PS This will happen fast if it over heated with the aluminum parts.

Oil leak - head gasket

HI. I assume you are referring to the head gasket as the actual culprit. If so, this ruptured, or worn gasket must be replaced. This will cause a mixture of the internal fluids of the engine to occur, resulting is discolored exhaust smoke, and loss of compression as well.

Have the gasket replaced asap, to prevent further damage to the vehicle's engine.
