If you drive with cruise control a lot then it makes a huge difference in fuel economy. The car will downshift into a much lower gear on hills than is necessary. This raises the engine RPM,s and reduces fuel mileage. If you keep it in manual downshift only if the car starts slowing down too much, but usually it will pull most hills at like 2500 rpm and will not require downshifting. Other than that if you want to go fast it allows you to wind up each gear more than if in Auto.

What is the function of the manu & power buttons?

If I understand your question, the manu allows you to shift like a regular stick shift. The power will allow the revs to go higher than in normal for extra power/acceleration.

these are to raise or lower the transmission shift arm to either get more Power from your engine or use the Manu to lower in order to get more economy from your engine.

My 2006 expedition (97,000) is surging while driving. It has been doing this for about a month, and today the check engine light came on. What should I have a mechanic look at? I don't want to be taken...

If u do not want to be taken advantage of have them run a scan n interpret the codes for you. That way u know what you have to deal with. The car s been acting up for a month, the check engine light is its way of letting u know things are not all well in its powertrain system.

Just replace the carburetor in a 1975 chrysler newport which has 400 w/ 4bbl carbur. with an edlebrock. now my problem is the car will kickdown too soon or will have to shift manuely to get it to kickdown....

it could be your nuetral safety switch on trans. But if you just replaced carb I would start by making small adjustments to cable that goes from carb linkage to trans

MANU button on RAV4

The PWR button (power) is like a sports mode. It keeps in lower gears for longer so you can gain more speed. Handy for overtaking or fast lane changing. Not wise to use this all the time due to poor fuel economy.

The MANU button (manual) allows you to operate the gears manually. With MANU on and gear lever in L, it will drive in 1st. Gear lever in 2, it will drive in 2nd. Gear lever in D, it will drive in 3rd. If Overdrive is enabled then D will give you 4th gear instead.

Put it in drive and stays in high gear wont shift

Bad connection where the wires from the tranny plug up or you have a bad transmission control module, located I think underneath the dash next to the ECU module, looks like it except smaller.

When should I use the MANU and PWR switches.

That switch is for if you want to shift the car manually you can.You just push the button and start in first and shift like your driving a stick but with out the clutch..They manly use that in racing climbing long big hills or pulling heavier loads but if your just driving and you do none of thee above then never unless you want to have a lttle fun sometime shifting...Hope this helps you and have a great day..
