At night time, start your car and in a dark place, open the hood and look for sparks jumping out of your wires.  SHUT THE CAR OFF before trying to move them.  If you see ANY sparks, replace all the spark plug wires.

Usually a bad crankshaft sensor won't let you start the car at all --- shutting off power to the fuel system --- I would check the ignition components: plugs, wires, etc, after that the fuel system---injectors and fuel system controls, --- I don't think you have a pcm ( computer ) problem ---you need to start with checking the input devices and outut devices that work with the computer. best to go to local auto parts store and get a manual to familiarize yourself with components and their functions

does the engine run? If it does you may have a loose / intermittent connection at the crankshaft sensor or cam sensor. Check the crankshaft position sensor. Make sure it isn't loose. Also check the camshaft position sensor.

Need help getting multiple misfire and camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor

You are getting cam & crank sensor errors along with multiple misfires and you suspect the timing chain? Or PCM? You must have already done some other things to believe this, since either the cam or crank sensor malfunctioning can cause multiple misfires.

Toyota Yaris D4D Problem Scanner P0388

wow, no year car, nor engine type. stated.
does engine run? this is first ,no?
how many miles on it, 50k, 300K? what?
has the cam change been making noise for ever?

it means the input signals from that sensor is bad.
that means its bad or the wires connecting it are bad.
1nz-fe engine? 1.5L
if rpm is limited to 3000 rpm the ECU is in limp home mode.
no other codes, does it run at all ?

388s,
the ECU brain, what it means when 388 are thrown.?
it means the ECU thinks the engine is spinning but
the Crank sensor is producing odd signals.
since you failed to say , if engine runs or not, i must guess.
it can also mean the Cam sensor is not agreeing with the crank sensor.
1: sensor dead. (wires first)
2: sensor misfiring (wires usually)
3: The ecu can report 1 misfire in 10 from both sensors !

crank pulley is right side of car
facing it, the sensors is at about 7PM
check wires there.? yet?

post more facts and we can do test.
top fact, does engine run and run right>?

Misfire on 2 and 5

Hi Paula,

You didn't mention if you changed the plug wires.

You mentioned replacing the camshaft sensor. Have you checked the Crankshaft Position Sensor? Or the Mass Air Flow Sensor (may need cleaning)? Or the Throttle Position Sensor?

Misfires

a misfire has nothing to do with crank and cam position sensors . those are for timing. check the ignition control module or coils and the spark plugs

Tps code keeps coming up, even after changing tps sensor, map sensor, and idle control sensor, and still runs the same, like ****! Any help would be great?

crankshaft position sensor, I almost positive that'll be your problem given what you have already done. You could try the cam sensor 1st to be sure since it is easier and there could be a chance that might be it(small chance). Anyways chk that out I'd be surprised if 1 of those didn't turn out to be your problem. Hope I could be of some help to you. Good luck.

replace the CKP and the truck will need to go to a shop and have the "crankshaft variation relearn" performed. the misfire may or may not go away, and that will need to be addressed also.

Check fuel pressure it should be 34psi and with vaccum removed from regulator it should be 43psi. Low fuel pressure can contribute to misfires.
