Does the starter spin the engine or not? If not, the starter or starter relay may be faulty. If the engine spins but doesn't start then it may be one of a number of defective parts preventing the engine from starting.

I have an 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I am having a problem starting my car. I replace the battery, and also the alternater. What else could it be that causes my car to appear that the battery is dead?

Maybe your starter relay is bad, which will not allow current to the starter, making it seem like a dead battery. Could also be the actual wiring to the starter, from the ignition, is bad or the ignition switch also. Just a few suggestions.

Most likely the starter ,if they have worn contacts in the starter they will do this, and start good too,but you still have to replace the starter.
