that must be one poor mechanic you had to do it, there is not really much you are going to be able to do with it ,it should have been done when it was installed .I dont know what he has done so its hard to guess at this ,he may have bent the arms or you may be able to remove the wiper arms and turn the wipers on and then turn them off then see if you can snap them back on about level at the bottom of the window

is there a trave adjustment on the wiper transmission as I am willing to take everything apart

  • agresham May 07, 2014

I've never seen an adjustable setup, the throw of the arm is set by the geometry of the design, not any kind of adjustment. If it's only half an ince or so out, is it perhaps simply a case of the arm being fitted at a different angle? You'd correct that simply by loosening the nut at teh base of the wiper arm and, after a wiggle, setting it at the correct angle then retightening. If it's out more than half an inch or so then I'd expect the arm to be hitting on something at the bottom of the stroke if the mistake that I'm referring to was made.

This should have been checked before the mechanic gave you the car back.the lack of travel indicates they put the linkage in the wrong place where it engages to the motor.take it back and have them correct this. You can do nothing unless you are handy and want to take apart yourself and play with it. good luck

SOURCE: windshield wipers

don't have to remove the dash- remove the plastic black cowl just under the wipers. The "pop" you heard is probably the clasp coming off the ball nut connected to the wiper motor. check the mounting plate for damage (usually they're good or need a little bending-needle nose pliers work best). Screw the two nuts back down after you reposition the unit. Turn on wipers to test connection, but make sure wipers are clear before testing. Replace cowl and you're back in business.

SOURCE: The windshield wiper linkage is

Yes, I think that if you remove the cover to the wiper linkage, it will become apparent how to repair the linkage through either replacement, or by putting it back together, if a plastic joint came out of its socket.

Sometimes, too much ice can cause a plastic joint to pop out. In many cases, in my experience, it's not broken, but can be popped back together until it pops out again in inclement weather conditions.

If it is, in fact broken, then the joints can be purchased at your dealership for a nominal cost.

Good luck on this repair.

Your wiper linkage has come off the wiper motor. To reconnect the linkage, first remove the wiped arms, the remove the wiped cowl. The wiper cowl bolts are located under the hood and screws through the spaces in the cowl. Reconnect linkage, reinstall cowl, reinstall wiped arms.

How to change front wiper motor on 1993 ford explorer

Hi there,
  • Turn the ignition on, and turn the front windshield wipers on. When the wipers are facing straight up on the window, turn the ignition off so they remain in that position.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable with an adjustable wrench. Remove the passenger side wiper blade assembly, by removing the pivot nut at the bottom with an adjustable wrench. Remove the wiper linkage access cover, and use a screwdriver to remove the wiper motor clip. Remove the wiper linkage from the wiper motor.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector on the wiper motor. Remove the bolts and nuts, securing the wiper motor with a socket wrench. Remove the wiper motor from the vehicle. Install the new wiper motor, and tighten mounting bolts and nuts with a socket wrench. Connect the electrical harness to the new wiper motor. Connect the wiper linkage, and insert the linkage clip. Install the wiper blade assembly, and tighten the nut with an adjustable wrench.
  • Connect the negative battery cable securely, using an adjustable wrench.
Hope this helps...

Windshield wipers travel way to far on our 2001 subaru outback stationwagon. How do I shorten up the travel ?

I have the same problem with a 2001 Legacy wagon. The problem is not as simple as the solutions above. Mine are adjusted to park as low as possible when turned off. Even so, the blade on the drivers side goes all the way off the windshield. The Subaru dealer wants to replace the whole wiper blade transmission for about $450. Looking online it seems to be interconnecting arms and pivot points that connect the motor to the wiper blade arms.

I have a 2005 ford galaxy with slow wipers

Hey there. I had a similar problem on my 2001 galaxy diesel. On research it's a very common problem. If you are mechanically minded it can be an easy fix with a bit of time. You need to remove the whole wiper linkage and motor and free out the bushes that hold the wipers in position applying pbc grease before refitting. Continued use will only result in your motor burning out which is 350+euro from ford and if the linkage seizes completely then another 400+euro so catch it before it's too late.
