U have a blown cylinder head gasket, that is why the antifreeze is discolored.

2002 dodge caravan sport overheated. It has a new radiator and hoses; we changed the thermostat and replaced the relay and pigtail for the cooling fans after it overheated but we still have the overheating...


Double check the thermostat and make sure the water pump is doing its job. To check the thermostat, simply take it out and reassemble the housing with out the unit. Run the engine and hopefully it will get warm to hot. If not check the pump.

Look in the radiator to determine if the brown stuff is rust or oil. If it's oil then the head gaskets are blown and the heads will have to go to a machine shop to be ground flat. Do them both even if one side is ok, or the engine will never idle right. If it's just rust, install a back flush kit and blow out the rust. Turn the heater on when you back flush to get the rust out of the heater core. Replace the thermostat and anti freeze. Pressurize the radiator and make sure it holds. If the pressure drops off then look to find where the leak is (head gaskets)

2000 grand cherokee laredo overheated and anti-freeze spolled from the reservoir. what would have caused this


the over heating can be as a result of a failing fan, dirty radiator system that needs to be flushed or the head gasket that needs replacement.

Engine warms well, heater fan blowing well, but very little heat comes into cab


It could be one of two things.
1. Bad thermostat. Your thermostat is pobably not opening when the engine warms up. Install a new thermostat and you should be OUT OF THE COLD. If not,
2. Your heating core and radiator is probably clogged. One way to solve this is. Flush out your radiator with radiator flush kit. Pease read your owners manual, (YOU NEED TO USE A SPECIAL TYPE OF ANTI FREEZE). If you use the the green color Presotne anti freeze, It will gradually corrode through the linings of your radiator. And the green color prestone anti freeze will blow out the radiator. So read your owners malual ( I beleive it says you have to use Dextron Anti Freeze ( Pink Color).. Replace your thermostat and flush out your radiator. Then refill your radiator with dextron anti freeze. Also make sure the anti freeze resivor is filled to the proper level.. Once you do all of this, YOU DEFFINITLY WILL BE IN HEAT.. YOU CAN DO THIS YOUR SELF ( iT WOULD TAKE ME NO MORE THAN 1 TO 2 HOURSFOR ME TO DO THIS IN MY DRIVEWAY) OR YOU CAN HAVE THIS DONE AT ANY QUICK LUBE LOCATIONS... HAPPY MOTORING

I have a 2005 dodge caravan with a 3.3 engine i have filled the radiator full let vehicle idle for 1 hour checked rad level and it has dropped.no leaks nor over heating problems where is the anti freeze...


the problem that I came across with dodge caravan is that the transmission cooler is inside the radiator and it deteriorates to the point that the antifrise enters in the transmission.If the oil is the coller of strawberry ice cream.dont look any ferther.The trans will not last to long,the antifreeze deteriorates the clutches.the trans will probably have to be rebuilt. Solution:get an external trans filter then plug the cooling lines at the rad.

Dodge 2002 Grand Caravan V6 3.3 engine overheating/no cabin heat.


Replace the bad radiator hose first.  Second- get you special formulated anti-freeze dye from the auto store and pour it into the radiator.  Third- make sure you got all the air pockets out of your system, cause the coolant system won't work with air pockets in it.  Fourth- Check for leaks by looking for the colored dye.  If it's not the radiator hose, then could possibly be a pin hole in your radiator.  Would suggest replacing all the radiator hoses at the same time while you got the coolant system disconnected, cause you don't want to have to come back and replace another hose in a few months.

Have a 2000 chevy venture mini van when idleing for a while will not over heat when just start it and drive will over heat replaced everything exept radiator for the cooling system and ran a pressure check...


check the lower rad hose , it may be collapsing, it should have a spring inside to prevent that problem, overheating only when the engine is run at higher rpms

Does the radiator fan operate properly? The radiator fluid level (checked when the engine is cold) must be 'at the cap' with the reserve tank about half-full. Blow out the radiator core with compressed air (from the engine side) to clean it of bugs and other debris. Does the anti-freeze look green or rust brown? If rust colored, the entire cooling system needs to be drained, cleaned with system cleaner, and refilled again with a 50/50 fresh mixture of anti-freeze and water. If combustion gases are leaking into the cooling system through a bad gasket or warped cylinder head, that will cause overheating. Check the radiator cap for condition of it's seal. Occasionally, the water pump impeller will begin slipping on it's drive shaft causing limited water flow through the system. That is checked by reducing the level of fluid in the radiator to just above the core and temporarily removing the thermostat. You will observe water moving rapidly if the pump is working.
