SOURCE: 2004 Renault Trafic 1,9 dci gearbox problem. I

had exactly the same problem with mine, its in my mates garage as we speak. he had to take the engine out open the gear box and check the bearings. All the bearings were worn !!!! had to buy a wole bearing kit, £170 . plus labour, lot cheaper than getting it reconditioned by specialists!!! they wanted £1000 for doing exactly what my mate has done for me. Hope this helps you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When change back from 5 gear to 4 gear sometimes dont want to go in 4 gear and make gear noices

Hi
Couple of things to check first, is there enough oil in gearbox ?
Is the clutch riding low or high ?
and is the engine high miles ?
Low oil could certainly cause this type of problem.
Bleed the clutch if it's riding low.
High mileage could indicate worn syncromesh.
If the first two don't cure it then it's on to the third.
Most folk in this situation would opt for a reconditioned box or if you've got the cash, a new one !
Taking your gearbox to a garage will most certainly start costing heavy money if you ask them to sort it out. A gearbox refurb is a highly skilled job and costs can spiral. Better to just go for a pre-refurb.

Do Renault megane ii dynamique 1.6 16v automatic 2004 displayed ( check gearbox) I did fill oil but still keep ( check gearbox ) do there 2 ways of fill?

check gear box means check the gear box for operation not just the oil level
take it to an accredited service center and have the fault codes read to find out the exact reason for the notification

Kangoo, gearbox warning light comes on,will not change gear,if i stop and turn ignition off then back on again it is o.k.??....colin.

It's a faulty gearbox interlock switch. Very very common on Kangoos and related Renault models like the Clio.

Contact a Renault dealer; in some territories they were replacing them for free. Otherwise you'll have to replace the switch with a new one and it's really difficult to get at without dropping the engine and gearbox. If it was easy, it wouldn't be a proper Renault!

Hi Val,first of all the gearboxes for all vw are made in the same factory in germany and if one model of car was giving trouble the whole range would suffer.i.e.SEAT/SKODA/AUDI/VW.I have not heard of any specific cars giving trouble.but to answer your problem, get the linkage checked by a dealer as these tend to wear and a specific tool is required to set them up properly.and while they are under the car get them to change the oil for the gearbox.you do not need to get a NEW gearbox as a reconditioned one is MUCH cheaper.if you want to down that road.(you will still need to get the linkage set up).
hope this sorts it out for you.regards. geoff,England.

Mercedes A140 gearbox fault

Its a common and known fault on the Mercedes A140 unfortunately. Mercedes seem to have rectifieded the issue on later A series models but to my knowledge they have never admitted to a problem or had a recall on affected gearboxes.

It is unlikely therefore that you will get much joy from the dealers on this issue. Your best bet might be to source a replacement gearbox from a breakers or even better a reconditioned box with a warranty.

Thanks for using FixYa.
