SOURCE: replace motor on tailgate window on a 1987 ford bronco

You will likely have to remove the panel from the inside with the window up. Once you have the panel off I would try to have some one hold down on the switch while you tap the motor with a hammer. Of course make sure the latches are all the way closed as if the door is not closed all the way the window will not roll down as it has safety switches to keep this from happening.

If you still can not get it down then you will need to unbolt the regulator and let it down that way.

SOURCE: tailgate won't unlatch

sometimes pushing in on the gate will release pressure on the latch enough to pop it, but the real problem is the linkage to the latch. it's probably stretched or bent from force. once you get it opened, take off the panel and manually latch and trigger latch it. see how the linkage acts and take out any slack w/pliers etc.

SOURCE: tailgate won't open, broken latch. how to fix?

If you can find a used one it is much cheaper (obviously). You need to pull off the tailgate interior panel covering. Also you may not. There may be access to it from underneath.I have pulled apart windows, doors but have never had a truck or SUV.There may be some screws holding down the interior cover in a few spots. If you have to pull apart the interior panel, look for screws that may be capped with those little plastic covers, they like to hide the screws for appearance. Then you will have to gently pry at the seams between the cover and the tailgate. There are usually little pop in pins holding it on.Please do it carefully because they can break.Once you get past the interior cover, there should be access to the latch. It's usually only held on by a couple of medium size bolts, maybe 10mm-12mm.(Everything seems metric these days anyhow).Good luck and let me know if you need further help or have any questions.

How to open rear hatch on 2006 Ford Freestyle without handle

If it has an electric release or a cable release you will need to open it from the inside by use of the lever (cable) or button (electric) and the vehicle handbook will provide location details. If the releases do not work the fuse(s) might be blown or the cable broken near the handle.

If all has been tried in the car to no avail it will be necessary to open the tailgate by diverse means - in the case of an electric release it is common for the wiring to break where it passes from the vehicle roof into the tailgate and in the hope that is the fault it will be necessary to remove whatever trim is going to give access to either the electric release or the wires nearby and then provide it with a 12 volt supply and hope that opens the tailgate because if it doesn't it will mean manually manipulating the lock - not often easy for the inexperienced.

The cable of the cable release and the release itself is fortunately much more accessible as they are body equipment and not tailgate equipment.

Hatchback window latch stuck on 2004 ford explorer limited

The hatch window is locked and unlocked by an electric motor on your remote. If your sure the button on the remote is working (make sure by trying another remote that's programmed for your vehicle) the problem lies in the motor or its fuse, most likely the motor or latch linkage is jammed. If you open the tailgate itself, you will need to remove the trim panel to access the glass hatch release from there. Remove the plug wires to the glass hatch and check for voltage when pressing the remote with a DC voltmeter. If no voltage and you're sure the remote is good, there is an open circuit or bad fuse. If there is voltage the motor is bad or jammed. Try these steps and let us know what happened.

Then you must disassemble the tailgate and check the linkages to see what is malfunctioning with the exterrior handle. Sometimes the ears on the handle itself breaks.

Rear hatch on my 2001 explorer will not open, rear window will but tailgate hatch will not. how do i open it with out the unlock button, no manual release that i can see...

I had a clip break when I tried to open my tailgate. I had to remove my inside hatch panel and find my way to the handle assembly. A little plastic clip (shaped like a T) had finally worn out, which wouldn't hold the locking arms, and I had to go to a Ford dealership for a $3 part; tailgate has worked fine since then!

Liftgate window won't close

Check to be sure the latch assembly is released the explorers were bad for the assembly getting rusty or sticky, oil it up good and open and close the lock mechanism several times to insure its operating easily, you may have to open it first if it appears closed with the tailgate up
