You need to have a 12 volt charge on the battery before you install a new alternator. If you do not have a 12v charge it will burn out the alternator every time.

Sometimes you are just the unlucky soul that gets bum alternators or your battery in the truck has enough juce to crank it over but is almost dead and your alternator is burning up trying to charge a battery that wont accept a decent charge. plus clean the battery terminals

My battery terminals keep snapping and I have replaced the postive twice already in two months. What could be causing them to snap in half? They are hard metal so I don't understand.

A poor connection to the battery can melt a cable. Make sure your battery terminal is clean and free from corrosion.Make sure that your battery lead has slack and that it is not taught, especially when the engine is revving.
Make sure you don't over-tighten the soft battery terminal as it will over stress.

I have a 1987 260e mercedes benz and i just got a new battery and its dead already

Recharge battery from home, or take battery to supplier to see if it charges, when charged check dash to see if light is on when running, if there is a red light which might be very faint, get diode replaced in alternater, (or checked to see if it is charging) (lot cheaper than buying new alternater). Which most dealers will try and sell you.

My battery keeps dieing while running. just changed the alternater three weeks ago.

Hi.

Make sure that you also replaced the battery. Battery elements may be shorted inside. That will result in battery draining even if the alternator is working.

If you have already replaced the battery check power across battery terminals with engine on and revving above idle. You should read voltage in a range of 13.5/14.4 volts when engine is revving at about 2K rpm.

If the voltage is still wrong after replacing alternator and battery check the voltage regulator connected to the alternator. Here the part.

If battery, alternator and power regulator are OK, test wiring to find out if there is a short to ground that is draining the battery while you drive. This fault is quite unusual with your symptoms. Check battery, alternator and voltage regulator first.

Regards.

Battery light goes on and off. got new battery twice this year and it still dies. mechanic cannot find problem and says it's not the alternater. help, I never know when the battery is going to die.

ITS EITHER ALTERNATOR OR ALTERNATOR WIRES BROKEN OR DAMAGED.IF ALTERNATOR WIRES LOOKS OKAY.I WOULD REPLACE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY CABLES.WHEN BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON ALTERNATOR IS NOT CHARGING BATTERY.REPLACING BATTERY TWICE A YEAR IS CHARGING PROBLEM.ALTERNATOR NOT DOING ITS JOB.IF YOU BUY ANOTHER ALTERNATOR BUY CORRECT AMP ALTERNATOR BUY WHAT FACTORY PUT IN.

Box on top of battery keeps frying

some times overloading the small wires will do that ,check the amps and voltage, other wires may have a bad conection and the juice will go the shortest way, check the connections on the main ground and power wires, find the hotest spots where the problem resides as weak wire or a bad contact, you may want to double the hot ones to check
