Almost certainly it is coming from the rear bank cam cover gasket, for which leak the Camry V6 is notorious. Other common places are the distributor shaft o-ring seal, the crankshaft nose seal (replaceable), and the oil filter adapter bracket (if fitted)
If you get the cam cover gaskets done, specify Toyota parts, as the aftermarket parts don't last, they harden quickly.
There are three other area's that can leak, here they are in order of how often they occur
1.Engine Valve cover gasket(s) (2 if V6 engine), oil runs down the engine and drips off the pan.
2.Rear crankshaft seal leaking
3.Front crankshaft seal leaking. Oil is blown back by air pressure while driving and rips off of pan.
Well normally with toyota you change your belts about every 90,000 and spark plugs every 100,000 and if you havent changed your antifreeze then you will, they say toyota red antifreeze is suppose to last 5 years but i would change it every 3 because it breaks down just like regular oil does. and i would get done the tranmission fluid normally you change that every 40,000 since its just like oil.
If your losing compression then I suggest doing a compression test and then following it up with a wet compression test to determine whether the problem is in the valves or pistons.
Wow one tune up in 122k miles jerking not really an ignition thing more like a fuel thing. If Compression test results are good then do a full tune up even replace coil packs or distributor ( which ever is applicable) and replace fuel filter.
These vehicles are not known for major engine problems (blown engines bad valves etc).
Big with transmission problems if its a 6 cylinder not the 4 cylinders.
Call the Toyota coustmer care service center they may help, however the filter coming completely off with out the oil light is almost impossible. the oil light should have come on right away, and since it was not done at the Toyota dealer they have no liability or responsibility to fix it as they were not the ones that did the oil change. If the independent shop did the oil change and did not replace the oil filter with the correct filter they could be held liable but after 3.5 months anything could of happened. Including a prankster that loosened up the filter for a laugh or someone your grandpa may have **********. However it will be impossible to know for sure and there is no evidence of what happened. normally if a oil filter is going to leak it would happen right away or within a few miles. Spend the money to talk to a lawyer for this problem but your pretty much done. The shop offering the labor to replace the filter is doing so as a gesture of good will and not of out of their neglect. So you are in a tough spot. Neither company is at fault and they would say he would be responsible for seeing the check engine and the oil light coming on before the filter came off. once the filter was loose the oil would come out so rapidly that the engine would seize before the filter ever fell off. That's why I tell my customers to use Dura Lube in there engines so that if this happens Dura Lube will replace the engine at no cost to you. That advise is a little late but now you have it use it in your own cars and trucks. I have put Dura lube in a engine and drained the oil and antifreeze out of the motor and drove it around and it never heated up nor did it damage the engine. afterwords we tore the engine down and checked the main and rod bearings and even after driving it for 30 minutes without oil or water there was no damage, so he is going to have to pay for this one. It seems like to much of a coincidence that it started after you changed the trans oil. You, or someone may have used the wrong oil. Modern automatics are very sensitive to the exact factory recommended blend. Dump the oil and go to toyota for the recommended lube and start over. Be sure the trans is filled correctly...only up to the hot mark if the trans is hot, not just the engine.
