What If i remove the 2 catalytic convertors what do I do with o2 sensors? Will the PCM get confused?

It will run fine,,, may throw codes,, burn more gas,,seems to have more power,,, you can leave the o2s in wont hurt nothin,,, you cant pass emmisions without cats,,,but it will run fine

SOURCE: 1996 silverado won't start. Previously was using

Test for spark at plugs if no spark check pickup coil or crank sensor coil-pack and Mogul also ecm fuse, If you have spark and it sounds like you are getting to much fuel ,in that case mote likely temp sensor defective ,bad ,to he sure have scaned if shorted it will read around -40 ,putting to much fuel out, Replace sensor & pig tail with it. i have hear Auto Zone will scan 4 free saving you about 85$ Hope this is some help ,when you find out more ,feel free to check back here let us know how we are doing Thank You..ps. let us know how we are doing.

No, the catalytic convertor does NOT sound right.
Normally with a random misfire a tune up takes care of it. What has also caused a misfire on those early motors is the popet injectors. They were prone to having problems and have been updated back around 2000 or so. But usually its a cyclinder or two or three or... misfire. All popets going bad is unlikely.
Might try changing the fuel filter and maybe checking pressure. Just the key on pressure should be 60-66psi. While running it may be around 60 and a snap of the throttle will make it rise to 65 or so.

most converters are available at a muffler shop..however if you decide to do this..you need a cutting torch and a welder.. as most are made into the header pipe right off the engine..save yourself the headache and let a muffler shop do this.. its way easier and you wont get dirty..and its worth the money..

The sensors before the catalytic convertor can affect drivability. If they are failing, a code will set in the PCM and turn on the check engine light.

Which o2 sensor did you replace? on 1996 and newer vehicles there are two o2 sensors: the upstream o2 sensor, which is before the catalytic convertor and moniters the air/fuel ratio in the exhaust. the downstream o2 sensor, which is after the catalytic convertor and moniters the exhaust emissions coming out of the convertor. you should have an error code that will tell you which o2 sensor is faulty, sensor 1 (upstream) or sensor 2 (downstream).

H2o bank 2 sensor 1 location


Bank and sensor location. Bank 1 refers to the back of cylinders that contain cylinder #1. Bank two refers to the other bank of cylinders that do not contain cylinder #1. Sensor 1 refers to the upstream O2 sensor or the O2 sensor before the catalytic convertor. Sensor 2 refers to the downstream O2 sensor or the sensor located after the Catalytic convertor. I have 4 oxygen sensors 1 is bad code po431 bank 2 is the upper or lower sensor

2001 dodge durango 4.7liter 4x4 i replaced front o2 sensor,rear 02 sensor,ground wire to exhaust and the engine light keeping coding saying (o2 sensor heater curcuit malfunction bank 1 sensor 2). car runs...


bank 1 sensor 2 is the left downstream sensor (1/2) is located in the exhaust downpipe just after the mini-catalytic convertor, and before the main catalytic convertor. Now the meaning of this is that your not getting any 12+/12- heating on sensor, which means voltage is supplied to heat sensor up. You have a O2 sensor heater relay, but not getting problem with 2/2 sensor tells me you need to check/inspect the wiring for 1/2 sensor, open wiring for 1/2 sensor and inspect

CATALYTIC CONVERTOR - BANK 2


You have a V6 engine, bank one is the row of cylinders on the passenger (right) side, bank two is the row of cylinders on the drivers side (left). Your codes indicate an inefficiency in the cat on the left side but this could be due to a bad O2 sensor or an engine that is out of tune and overloading the cat. This car seems too new to have a bad cat. I would change the plugs and the O2 sensor after the cat before going any further. The reason I say the O2 after the cat, it's the one that is critical in sensing cat efficiency. What is the mileage?
