SOURCE: how do i remove the headrest 2006 ford f 150

You just have to push the button on the side of one of the bars that connects to the headrest and lift up. On some vehicles you have to insert a paper clip into a hole on the opposite bar to get the headrest to come off.

I hope this helps, and thanks for using Fixya.

I have a 2009 Ford Explorer. The headrest is all the way up and I can't get it to go down.

There should be a release switch/mechanism at the base of the headrest. USUALLY one of the plastic rings at the base of the metal rods will turn to release it. If you look at the plastic rings one of them should have some kind of print on it, possibly a few blocks with a triangle/arrow, try twisting it in the direction the arrow is pointing, you may have to wiggle the headrest a little before it goes down. if neither has print on it, try turning them one at a time, in either direction. If I'm right its usually the one closer to the door. If neither twists look to see if one of them has a small section that seems to "break" the ring, this could be a release button, instead of twisting the ring, try pushing in on this part of it, again you may need to wiggle the headrest to make it go down. Good Luck!

Remove front headrest

There is a button you need to press at the bottom of one of the headrest rods (it is actually part of the main seat), but it is located right where the rods of the headrest enter.

You just have to push the button on the side of one of the bars that connects to the headrest and lift up. On some vehicles you have to insert a paper clip into a hole on the opposite bar to get the headrest to come off.

I hope this helps, and thanks for using Fixya.

Im trying to get the headrests out to install a seat cover on an F-150 with bench seats

On my F150 (2002 model), there is only one release button. My daughter had removed the headrest, and put it on backwards. It was locked in place, so I couldn't get it off until I noticed a little pinhole on the opposite side of the side with the release button. I inserted a paperclip into the pinhole, and it released the locking mechanism on that side so that the headrest could pop right off.

There should either be a little button at the base of the headrest that you push, or a small hole in the rod part, with a hole in it. Push in the hole with a pen, or a small nail to release the headrest.

Removal of headrest on 2005 Ford F150.

The headrest has on obvious button to adjust the height and another button kinda hidden to remove the headrest. The black plastic ring at the base where the metal poles insert into the seat is where the two buttons. You probably noticed the obvious on that sticks out of the side of one of the rings. The other plastic ring contains a similar button that is not noticeable due to it being flush with the side of the plastic ring. Adjust the headrest to its highest position, then locate the "hidden" button on the other plastic ring and depress it while lifting on the headrest and it should come out.
