SOURCE: Replacing a starter for a 1999 Altima

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  2. Disconnect starter wiring from starter.
  3. Remove starter retaining bolts and the starter.
  4. Reverse procedure to install.
the bolts should be on the drivers side.
you will have to crawl underneath the car to do this task

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  3. Remove the starter support bracket, as required.
  4. Label and disconnect the starter electrical harness.
  5. Support the starter from beneath the vehicle using a jackstand.
  6. Remove the starter mounting bolts.
  7. Carefully lower the starter from the vehicle.
To install:
  1. Position the starter on the engine and support it using a jackstand.
  2. Install the starter mounting bolts and tighten to 30-37 ft. lbs. (40-50 Nm).
  3. Connect the starter electrical harness.
  4. Install the starter support bracket, as required.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.

  1. Remove or disconnect the following:
    Negative battery cable Air duct Harness protector from the harness Starter wiring at the starter Starter-to-engine bolts Starter from the vehicle

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    Starter and torque the long bolt to 57-72 ft. lbs. (77-98 Nm) on Altima and Maxima and 41 ft. lbs. (55 Nm) on 350 Z. torque the short bolt to 22-30 ft. lbs. (30-41 Nm) Starter wiring Harness protector Air duct Negative battery cable
  1. Remove or disconnect the following:
    Negative battery cable Air inlet tube Harness bracket Wiring at the starter Starter

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:

Test battery, and check for loose connections. Check starter fuse & relay. If you don't hear clicking sounds while trying to start the car then most likely it's a bad starter relay. If your getting voltage to the starter but no click then you have bad starter.

I have a 03 nissan altima 2.5 , and i want to bypass the ac unit. what size belt do i use. and how do i run it?? are all the pulley necessary to use? or can i bypass certain one?

My 2002 nissan altima will not crank at all, is it the fuel pump ? or some other problem. and the weather is very cold.


Check your starter, it might not functioning.
Start withe the starter relay and then to the starter itself.

Try to short the two terminal on the solenid by using a crew dirver would crank the starter.

Replacing a starter and starter relay on a 1994 Nissan Pathfinder


Starter relay is located in a "fuse box" these rearly go out. Check your starter to make sure you are getting power to it when you turn your key. if so then worry about the relay or the Starter Solenoid.
