Hi..The first thing to check is how much fluid is in the tranny
and what condition is it in.If it is low or overfilled the tranny can
malfunction. If it hasn't been changed for a while have it powerflushed
and have the filter changed. Then check the alignment of your shifter
mechanism to make sure it is engaging where it is supposed to be.If
you have leaking or poor vacuum you can have erratic shifting and gear
engagement.Look at every vacuum line and not just the ones that go to
the tranny. If it isn't vacuum or fluid issues it may be the valve body or
something loose inside the tranny.
check it out..
thank u..

1988 Dodge Ram 50 Automatic shifts into park reverse and neutral. But physically won't go into drive gears.

Disconnect shift cable from transmission linkage and try to manually put transmission in drive gear ( make sure wheels chocked/park brake on ). If transmission goes into drive gear, suspect a shift cable or shifter assembly problem. If you can't manually shift into drive gear by hand with cable disconnected, suspect internal transmission/shift linkage issue

I have a problem with my shift gears, in order for me to drive (D) I have to put in on 1 or 2, to reverse (R) I have to put in on (D) drive, to park (P) I have to put it on reverse (R). Tell me what's

sounds like the cable from the gear stick to the gearbox selector switch has been put on wrong ,put the car into reverse so that the reverse light is on , turn the ignition off and find the gear selector on the gearbox , pop the end of the cable off it then put the gearstick into the "R" position and refit the end of the cable back onto the selector switch , hope this helps

When I put my gear into Reverse, Netrual and Drive the gear is getting stiff to move. Why is this happening?

If you mean the shifter is getting hard to move, its probably the shift linkage sticking, try a couple squirts of pblaster or other penetrating oil. If the motion of the vehicle is getting hard to drive in reverse and drive the torque converter may be the issue.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Transmission problems. when the gear selector is in reverse, it doesn't engage in reverse. When you go to neutral, it drives forward but doesn't shift through the...

Put the vehicle in Park, disconnect the shifter from the shift lever on the trans, adjust the linkage or cable so the connection is clearly a slip in/on connection and tighten things back up. Hopefully this will solve your non-reverse. As for all the gunk and metal shavings, friend, you better have another tranny standing by in your garage when this one stops working completely.

I have a F250 lariat with a 460 - truck stalls when I put it in gear - even after it runs for 20 min. Sometimes it will stall while I'm driving. I had carborator replaced last year. Hope you can help.

Some possible causes could be:

Vacuum leaks cause an engine to run lean witch can cause the vehicle to stall when put into gear.

Improper base idle adjustment can cause the vehicle to stall when shifted into drive or reverse

A malfunctioning or damaged carburetor can cause the vehicle to stall when shifted into drive or reverse

Improper ignition timing can cause the vehicle to stall when shifted into drive or reverse.

A malfunctioning or damaged transmission or torque converter can cause the vehicle to stall when shifted into drive or reverse

The gear shift gets stuck and won't shift into other gears. Will put it reverse and then try to put in drive and it gets stuck in reverse.

Either the shift knob or the actuator rod under the shift knob has worn out.
Remove the shift knob and pull the actuator rod (plastic) out of the shift lever and inspect it for wear or damage. If the rod is not worn or damaged, replace the shift knob and you will be good to go.
Good luck.
