Question about 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

When I went out to the garage this AM, the radiator fan was running in the van. I started the van to look for any warning lights and the Malfunction Indicator Light remained on. I took out the fuse and the fan went off. Any ideas? The dealer wants $92 just to bring it in the door.

Avid101, The battery is on the driver's side. I was wondering if it could be a relay?

Sounds like the temp sensor is bad.

the switch "if bad" will give the computer a false reading. therefore the computer has the fan come on. even when the car is off and cold.

yes it is possible that its a relay also. but the only way that i know how to check, is by replacing it.good luck

Wow a goast in the machine, I have racked my little head till it hurst and xan figure how the fan would be on since it is controled partly by the computer and by the igniton switch, with both being off there should be no way it could come on unless there was a short. There would have to be several things to go wrong for that to happen so I suggest you take it to a independant shop and let them have a look.let me ask you is the battery on the driver side or passenger side?

It could be a relay but here is what I am having trouble with, normally the fan is controlled by a temperature switch which is activated by the computer and only when the switch is on, there are some cars that the fan will stay on until it cools down and then shuts off even without the key, so yes it could be a bad relay but I am confused as to why it's on when it is not running. And what’s more confusing is it was on when in the garage overnight when it had not run, so for it to come on the temp switch would have to be around 130 degrees to come on so I don't know what would cause this, this one is a brain teaser.

A red light next to the oil light came on whilst driving yesterday, a funny shape that i would think may relate to the diesel/fuel filter? after a while it went off? What is this warning light for??

Did it sort of resemble the outline of an engine? That is the engine malfunction light. Get it to a garage and they will attach it to a code reader and that will tell where the fault is and why the warning light came on.

All the warning lights will be detailed in the owners manual.

Radiator fans won't come on while van is running

Start the car and turn on the AC to max. Do either of the fans run with the AC compressor engaged? Also, there is a temp sensor for the fan circuit but I don't know exactly where it is located on that vehicle.

I just got out of my Jeep a little while ago and heard that the radiator fan was still running with the engine turned off. I pulled the fan's relay in the fuse box and the fan stopped. I swapped in another...

This is a common feature. Warnings are posted that the fan can run anytime the engine is warm without warning and even though the ignition is off. Typically this is a timed type issue which shuts the fan off after 5 minutes. Nothing to be too concerned about in most cases.

Our VSC, Trac off and engine malfunction warning lights all came on last night while my husband was driving the van (in slippery conditions). Is it OK to drive?

Its ok to drive only for the distance which will make it upto the garage as it's an engine malfunction warning light that means if you don't fix this problem it can create big problem in the future. There are several reason for the engine malfunction light. some are minor and some are major so its better to have it checked.

Is the radiator fan the same as the cooling fan?

The cooling fan is used to cool the radiator.
There is a sensor that turns the fan 'on' if the radiator gets too hot. A light comes 'on' to tell you the fan is 'on'.

If the fan ran all night the sensor is bad and the (sorry for the pun) the idiot light is on to tell everyone something is wrong and it needs service.
DON"T run your car with out the fan!

Check engine light is on.

Turn the key from off to on 5 times and the van will display the P codes on the odometer display. Google those codes and you should find the cause of you problem or an indication of where to start anyway. Some codes don't go away until you unplug the battery.
