I'm bleeding the system after replacing the power steering pump, I already jacked the front end up and checked resivoir levels, and went end to end on the steering wheel, then lowered the car checked levels again started it went end to end a few times, the steering felt good no winding noise smooth turning, then test drove around the block, all the sudden the steering got really hard, any idea what happened or what i did wrong?

to bleed power steering, with front wheels off ground slightly with front wheels pointing straight ahead.engine off. remove power steering filler cap.add power steering until fluid level stop dropping,wait couple minutes and wait, add fluid until level stay at full cold mark on power steering cap dip stick. dont over fill.when fluid level stop dropping, start vechicle,let it idle few minutes. see if fluid level drop if so add more fluid full cold mark.then turn steering all the way to left and right with out hitting a stop.turn steering wheel several times, then turn front wheels pointing forward check power steering fluid level.if power steering fluid level stop dropping air should be out of system, if steering turning wheel dont turn smoothly and power steering fluid look light tan color air getting in the system.check all power steering lines to rack and power steering pump for leaks.be sure you replaced all the power steering lines with new o rings if not you will get a leak.if you find a leak, you need to fix the leak and bleed system again.dont drive vechicle if your steering dont feel right,have vechicle towed to a garage.

Hello! There are power steering fluid in/out hoses but no vacuum lines...It sounds as if the pump needs to be bled of air or the belt is loose...Belt should move about 1/2 to 3/4"...Bleeding is as follows...

ImportantPower steering fluid level must be maintained throughout bleed procedure.

1. Fill pump reservoir with fluid to minimum system level, FULL COLD level, or middle of hash mark on cap stick fluid level indicator.
ImportantWith hydro-boost only, the oil level will appear falsely high if the hydro-boost accumulator is not fully charged. Do not apply the brake pedal with the engine OFF. This will discharge the hydro-boost accumulator.

2. If equipped with hydro-boost, fully charge the hydro-boost accumulator using the following procedure:
2.1. Start the engine.2.2. Firmly apply the brake pedal 10-15 times.2.3. Turn the engine OFF.
3. Raise the vehicle until the front wheels are off the ground. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
4. Key on engine OFF, turn the steering wheel from stop to stop 12 times.
Vehicles equipped with hydro-boost systems or longer length power steering hoses may require turns up to 15 to 20 stop to stops.

5. Verify power steering fluid level per operating specification. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
6. Start the engine. Rotate steering wheel from left to right. Check for sign of cavitation or fluid aeration (pump noise/whining).
7. Verify the fluid level. Repeat the bleed procedure if necessary.

YOU NEED TO REMOVE DRIVE BELT.NOW PLACE DRAIN PAN UNDER CAR IN LINE WITH POWER STEERING PUMP.NOW SIPHON OUT MUCH POWER STEERING FLUID OUT RESERVOIR USING A SIPHON.ONCE FLUID REMOVE OUT POWER STEERING PUMP.USE A DEEP 3/8 SOCKET ABOUT 13M OR 14 M YOU NEED A SHORT EXTENSION AND A 3/8 RATCHET WRENCH.TO REMOVE POWER STEERING PUMP.TO LOOSEN BOLTS, TAKE DEEP SOCKET IN PULLEY HOLES . LOOK THROUGH POWER STEERING PULLEY HOLES ALIGN DEEP SOCKET THROUGH THE PULLEY HOLES TO THE PUMP BOLTS. LOOSEN ALL THREE BOLTS. YOU HAVE TO TURN PULLEY THREE TIMES TO REMOVE ALL THE POWER STEERING PUMP BOLTS.ONCE POWER STEERING PUMP BOLTS REMOVED.TAKE OLD POWER STEERING PUMP TO THE MACHINE SHOP.THEY WILL HAVE TO REMOVE PULLEY OFF OLD PUMP AND TRANSFER DRIVE PULLEY TO NEW POWER STEERING PUMP.NOW WHEN YOU INSTALL NEW POWER STEERING PUMP.MAKE SURE TO BUY A NEW O RING FOR THE HIGH PRESSURE HOSE TO POWER STEERING PUMP. WHEN ALL DONE BLEED POWER STEERING PUMP. WITH THE FRONT WHEELS TURNED ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT AND THE IGNITION KEY OFF, CHECK THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL AND IF LOW ADD FLUID UNTIL IT REACHES THE COLD MARK ON THE DIP STICK.SAFELY RAISE FRONT WHEEL OFF GROUND BY SUPPORTING FRONT OF THE CAR USING JACK STANDS, MAKE SURE CAR SITTING ON SOLID LEVEL GROUND. START THE ENGINE AND ALLOW IT TO RUN AT FAST IDLE.RECHECK THE FLUID LEVEL AND ADD MORE IF NECESSARY TO REACH THE COLD MARK ON THE DIP STICK.BLEED THE SYSTEM BY TURNING THE WHEELS FROM SIDE TO SIDE WITHOUT HITTING A STOPS.THIS WILL WORK THE AIR OUT OF THE SYSTEM. BE CAREFUL DONT GET POWER STEERING FLUID ON CAR PAINT IT WILL DAMAGE PAINT JOB.PUT A DRAIN PAN UNDERNEATH CAR TO CATCH POWER STEERING FLUID THEN DISCONNECT POWER STEERING PUMP LINES.REMOVE POWER STEERING PUMP ADJUSTER BOLT AND MOUNTING BOLT.REMOVE POWER STEERING PUMP.MOST OF THE TIME NEW POWER STEERING PUMP DONT HAVE DRIVE PULLEY ON IT SO TAKE TO A MACHINE SHOP THE WILL REMOVE PULLEY FROM OLD PUMP AND PRESS ON THE PULLEY TO NEW POWER STEERING PUMP.BESURE TO BUY NEW O RINGS TO END OF PRESSURE LINE.ONCE NEW POWER STEERING PUMP HAS PULLEY IN PLACE AND YOU HAVE NEW O RING FOR HIGH PRESSURE LINE.INSTALL NEW PUMP.ADJUST BELT TENSION.NOW BLEED POWER STEERING PUMP WITH FRONT WHEELS POINT STRAIGHT A HEAD POSITION.POUR POWER STEERING FLUID IN PUMP UNTIL FLUID LEVEL ON COLD MARK ON POWER STEERING PUMP DIP STICK.KEEP ADDING FLUID UNTIL FLUID STOP DROPPING. START THE ENGINE LET IT RUN AT IDLE ADD MORE FLUID IF DROPS KEEP FLUID ON FULL COLD MARK.ON DIP STICK TURN OFF ENGINE.CHECK TO MAKE SURE POWER STEERING PUMP NOT LEAKING AT THE LINES THEN.SAFELY RAISE SUPPORT FRONT OF THE VECHICLE WITH JACK STANDS. MAKE SURE VECHICLE ON SOLID LEVEL GROUND CHECK.FLUID LEVEL MAKE SURE AT FULL COLD MARK. NOW START ENGINE.LET IDLE MINUTE.THEN TURN STEERING WHEEL ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT TO RIGHT SEVERAL TIMES WITH OUT STOPPING IT IN PLACE. CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID WHEN FLUID LEVEL STOP DROPPING.AND FLUID IS NOT A TAN COLOR WHICH MEAN LOTS OF AIR IN SYSTEM. TURN OFF CAR UNTIL AIR BUBBLES DISAPPEAR.CHECK FLUID LEVEL BLEED POWER STEERING AGAIN. DONT DRIVE VECHICLE UNTIL STEERING FEEL NORMAL.IF FLUID REMAIN TAN WITH AIR BUBBLES CHECK FOR LEAKS AT POWER STEERING PUMP PRESSURE HOSE ORING. AND CHECK POWER STEERING LINES TO PUMP FOR LEAKS.

If you have a hydroboost brake booster, it uses the fluid from the power steering unit also. You probably need to bleed the system. Most of the time this can be accomplished by lifting the front end and after supporting with jack stands, rotate the steering wheel "end to end" about 15 times in a slow deliberate fashion. Check the fluid level often and if it foams up, let the steering wheel sit in one spot for a minute to let the bubbles dissapate.

OK, I would maybe try to jack up the front, and turn the steering wheel left and right a few times and check for the fluid level to make sure it's not low.

Try to bleed again, if necessary.

its not really needed, just fill it up and start the engine. dont let it get low. it will bleed itself.

It may quiet down for a while but the damage is done so the pump will eventually need to be replaced.

sounds like you may not have all of the air out of the system. one way you can bleed the system is to fill the resivoir start your vehicle and turn the wheel all the way to the right count to ten then the same to the left. shut off your vehicle and check fluid level. if it look realy foamy let it sit a wile. repeat and your problem should be solved.
