I had a rumble and the truck would shutter bad coming to a stop. Brought it in and said my rear end was bad. I bought used rear end and put it in same thing but worse, pulled drive shaft in rear and drove in 4 wheel drive, it was gone. Checked the u joints and the middle one was stiff so i replaced all three. NOW has a shake between 28-40 mph, if you step on the gas hard it does not do it, if you coast with clutch out or in or on the gas slightly or on the brakes it shakes. a place put new carrier barring on it 2000miles ago no prob for the first 2000miles and it still seems tight like new. Any ideas?
You have identified the problem when you pulled the drive shaft and the shake was gone. So you know it is between the tranny and the rear end. If it is not the universal joints, then you have a warped drive shaft.

If you are definitely sure it is coming from the rear end you have to remove the rear end cover. You will see the condition of the fluid check the fluid while that is being done. You will have a bird's eye view of the condition of the ring and pinion gears and the pinion bearings. The rumble from the rear end is usually a bad pinion bearing.
If you're not sure it is the rear, another often overlooked problem is the rear universal joint on the drive shaft. You have to remove the drive shaft to check the pinion bearing so you'll find the "U" joint is bad right then and there. If the joint is bad, don't cheese out, get both of them replaced.
have you checked the tires to see if they are balanced? checked the tires to see if tread is separating? tie rods for looseness? shocks to see if they are bad???
I had this on my 2002 Yaris, with 103,000 miles on the clock. I found that the rear engine mounting rubber bush was partly torn and the charcoal cannister was loose (not inserted in bracket properly). I installed a used rear engine mount off e-bay, straightened the cannister bracket and inserted it properly. Knocking noise at low revs now sorted.
Mate. This may not be it,but.Get all the steering and front end mounts checked for tightness.A loose mount will give the same symtoms as you described.Steering box mounts, etc.Like I said,It may not be the problem but I have seen very similar with the same things happening.I hope this is of help
First off, check vacuum modulator tube connection.Next, check kick down cable (detant switch) Dirty fluid?) change it but DON'Tflush it at this mileage or you will end up with torque converter shutter
