Question about 1999 GMC Suburban
I get a drop in my oil pressure when my engine warms. Engine does not knock but has a slight change in idle only at stops, not when in park. Besides this engine runs just fine. Was told by dealer that motor was rebuilt recently. Truck is a 1999 yukon.
A 1999 Yukon DOES NOT have a vacuum advance. It is computer controlled timing. Low oil pressure is the result of some or all of the following : worn oil pump, worn cam bearings, worn crank bearings. Oil pressure also normally drops as engine warms because the viscosity of the oil changes with temperature.

When your engine is warming up there is a vaccume advance that reves the motor up slightly so it will warm it up quicker. I would look for a vaccum leak. and check the PCV valve it is usually located comming out of the top of the valve cover it usually is in the shape of an "L" fat side towards the valve cover and a hose will connect it to the air intake just before the throttle body it is about 1 in long 1/2 inch wide. and when you take it out and shake it it should make a clacking noise if not it is bad. replace it. Really cheap. I would bet on a vaccum leak. if the oil light does not come on I would not worry too much. but if it does shut your car off emiditally. it is telling it is not getting enough oil. It is the life of you motor. never run it with the oil light on.

If your oil pressure gets to low it can turn off the fuel pump. This may also have saved your engine. The ECM turns on the fuel thru the fuel pump relay for about 5 seconds. When engine is running oil pressure sender supplies the voltage to the pump. When engine shuts off check oil pressure and voltage to fuel pump.
