Transmission has to be manually shifted. Downshifts on its own, and i can take off in 1st but only at very slow speed. 2nd and 3rd gear seem fine other than manually shifting.


u need a scan using factory or vehicle specific gear--values of components will be diplayd so an xperiencd tech can decyfr--littl code readers dont du it---w age of car certain sensors etc need replacin-believe that trans is electric controled--dont rplace any parts til uve isolated issue----------also go to magicmechanic online and checout the napa library on that model

Hard shfit into reverse, and no light on gear indicator


I was about to say rebuild it

You need to stop using i say as a former
trans shop owner & hope the damage isn't
done already

You have solenoid issues every where
Delayed reverse
Torque Converter Chatter
Delayed Shifts

Hope the trans was built correctly
Now you need to diagnose the ENTIRE
cars systems,all of them

You have no real shift strategy at all

May be a sensor you don't see associated with
the trans

2002 jetta transmission cannot shift unless the car is worm enough for about 20-30 min then the trans will work fine .


you might try a trans service where they change the fluid and filter as well as flush the system. when it shifts does it slip if it does you'll need the trans rebuilt

It's actually your transmission fluid getting hot! Check trans. cooling lines going to radiator or aux.trans.cooler. Check fluid on dipstick with engine running, if you fluid is burnt looking not bright red anymore. Have your fliud flushed-changed and have service tech flush lines through radiator.You may solve problem this easy, but worse case senerio if it has done this for awhile you may need to rebuild trans. and get new cooling lines. My chrysler did the same thing but it cost me $1450.00 for the rebuilt trans.. After my trans. was rebuilt by the 35 years experianced shop,I found that the cooling lines were clogged and it burntout there fresh rebuild. The warranty I got paid for the second go around rebuilding trans.again. That company had to eat the costs. Now everything shifts great! Drove it on vacation! Make sure if you get trans. rebuilt they replace the governor sensor and solenoid sensor if your trans. is electronic like my 95 is.

1st shift in the morning is fine, after the 1st stop, the trans will not shift out of 1st unless i do a full let off of the thottle. Does not produse any error codes. 100,000 miles, f-350, 7.3 L diesel


check your fluid level first then your shift linkage if that is all ok change your transmition filter and clean magnent in pain when you do so also check your kickdown and upshift senors ect if none of that takes care of your problem your going to want to go see amco or trans shop unless you have a really good manual for trans repair and hands on trans experince

ps if you find big chunks of metal in pan just look for new trans

Doesn't shift and shavings are in the pan.


Having owned a Trans Repair Shop years ago.

The rebuild manual---ATSG Manuals. Avail on their website or locally at a Trans Parts Supply house. Ask a local trans shop where they get there parts and get it there.

The fact you have shavings in the pan. The ONLY answer, is to pull the trans and take it to a Trans Shop and have it rebuilt. Then install a rebuilt converter and add a quart of fluid, before installing the converter.
You do what is called an over the counter. Your bring in the trans,they rebuild it in a couple days with all the latest updates. That is the least expensive way to go.
If they pull it, you surely will have things broken and pieces and parts missing when you get it back.

5 sp man trans. when accelerating, trans hangs up


sounds like you have a worn syncronizer. unless it gets really bad, you can keep driving like that, be gentle with those shifts and you shouldnt have any problems. changing the fluid may help prolong the life. if it gets bad, the transmission will have to be rebuilt.

Car will not go move in forward gears


You are going to need a Rebuild on this Tranny. Unless you know how to Rebuild a Tranny, I would have it done at a Tranny Shop. If you get the Clutches in the Wrong order During Rebuild it could Crack the Housing on the Tranny and cause a Bigger Problem. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
