My handbrake is not holding on a hill brakes seem fine I want to do it my self please help

YOU WILL NEED A HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL OR FACTORY MANUAL ON CD.BECAUSE ON BMW YOU HAVE TO REMOVE CENTER CONSOLE AND ARMREST TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE PARKING BRAKE LEVER. PARKING BRAKE CABLE CONSISTS OF TWO SECTIONS A RIGHT AND LEFT HAND SECTION, WHICH ARE CONNECTED TO THE LEVER.YOU HAVE TO LOOSEN REMOVE THE RELEVANT PARKING BRAKE CABLE LOCKNUT AND ADJUSTING NUT AND DISENGAGE THE INNER CABLE FROM THE PARKING BRAKE LEVER. IF YOU FIND A HAYNES BMW REPAIR MANUAL WITH HAND BRAKES.THAT WILL SHOW AND TELL YOU STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTION HOW TO ADJUST PARKING BRAKE CABLE ADJUSTMENT. I COULD TELL YOU HOW TO DO THE JOB. BUT YOU NEED TO SEE PHOTOS AND INSTRUCTIONS BECAUSE YOU NEED TO SEE WHERE YOU NEED TO MAKE CABLE ADJUSTMENTS.NOT EASY TO TELL YOU.

You Can probably accomplish this yourself if you have a brake pad warning light or ABS/ASC light on you may need a BMW tech to reset the system to complete the job.

Cant read dashborad light

sounds like your brake lining light. It means your brakes have worn below specification. The light to me kinda looks like a yellow circle with two dashes on one side and two on the other and they follow the curvature of the circle. On an x3 you can get a pretty good view of the brake pads looking through the wheel.
