2005 aveo parking brake light stay on

Parking brake was used a day ago after I released it I hade no problems, today My parking brake light on the dash will not go out, at first it was kinda intermittent. But now it stays on. I can't find the switch to see if it is stuck. I know the brakes are not on because I can push and pull the car easily and it slows down slowly on its own like no brake are applied.

I understand that but on the aveo it a stick you pull same thing but the switch is not on the base were I would have thought it to be. I was wondering if anybody knew where it was or had a solution.

When you release the parking brake pedal pull it all the way up and the light should stay off. The only other time that light will come on and stay on is if your brake pedal goes all the way to the floor. It is just a switch on the parking brake pedal, no big deal.

I also had that problem, at first it only came on when i accelerated, then it just stayed let. After I got my tires changed it went away. I was told it was because there was a buildup of brake dust. Take the front wheels off and rinse it down and that should take car of it.

Pull the lever all the way up, and then push it down as hard as you can, this should keep it off.

I stopped to pick up the mail. Didn't shut the engine off. Went to drive away and now, my Aveo is stuck in Park.

Check your brake lights. If they aren't working then you have found the problem. The brake light switch opens the park detent also.

check the brake fluid level, if its low, it may be time to check the brakes for wear. As your brakes are used up, the fluid goes down and turns the light on.

I have a 2008 chevy aveo that won't shift into gear unless we press the shift lock release. What is causing that and how expensive is it to fix?

It could be a few things....I just had this same problem with my 2008 chevy aveo this week. Also, my check engine light came on the very next day after the gear shifter started locking. I called Bob Bell and they told me that the gear shifter locking is probably due to a sensor going bad that tells your car it is in park. However, after taking my car to my brother-in-law (who has very LITTLe knowledge about repairing cars), we discovered that my brake lights were not working either. He told me that is why my check engine light is on - because it is extremely dangerous to drive without brake lights. We checked the fuses to make sure there was no fuse blown and they were all just fine. So bottom line, the problem was that there is a brake switch under your dash board where your brake is. My switch keeps sticking and will probably eventually need to be replaced. When the switch works properly, my brake lights work fine, my gear shifter unlocks and my check engine light goes out. Not sure how much it is to fix this switch if that is the problem but I hope it helps!

05 Chev Aveo stuck in park

I also own a 05 Aveo, same problem without the new stereo, could be your brake light switch I just replaced it and now get out of park no problem ($18.00) Autozone. 2nd problem could be your Brake Transaxle Shifter Interlock Solenoid. Save money ask Dealer for printout on how to install, I did. I hope this info helps out. P.S. try replacing brake switch first.

2004 Chevrolet Aveo Brake lights not working

A couple of days ago my brake lights on my 2004 Chevy Aveo wouldn't work, so I attempted to remove the lamp covers to check the bulbs. Also, before this my shifter would get stuck in park and could only be released by pressing the unlock gadget next to the shifter. Back to the brakes...Well, you open the trunk and remove the two screws just like the manual said, but it was very hard to pull off. There's 2 prongs holding the other half of the light on. The lamp will come loose by prying it (very hard). You think the cover will break, but it'll come loose. The bulbs were all OK.

After much frustration and internet info, the STOP LAMP SWITCH, GM#96436331 ($9.30 at Chevy dealer), which is located under the dash and has contact with the brake pedal, was defective. Once replaced, both my brake lights AND SHIFTING problems were cured. So if the brake lights suddenly don't work or you have problems getting the vehicle out of park, check the switch by pushing the prong (end that has contact with brake) of the switch in and out. If it doesn't retract smoothly...that's the PROBLEM. Good Luck.
